According to Opta Stats, whilst the Jak is the second best. http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/38684434 The stats don't lie, do they?
At shot stopping, I should add, before everyone starts shouting about how Marshall creates so many goal scoring chances with his fancy passing, just like that Bravo lad.
Id have liked to have seen him under Silva. But sending him out on loan, to get some confidence and experience, isnt a bad idea.
If we are relegated this season, and I do believe that with Silva in charge and Jak as first choice GK for the remainder of the season we can still stay up, but IF we do go down, Phelan's wilful blindness in continuing to start the inept Marshall week after week, will have been a major contributing factor. As stated above, the stats do not lie, and with Jak in goal we would most likely have several more points and be well clear of the relegation zone. Tragic mismanagement.
just shows what has been obvious all season marshall is utter **** jak is way better plus won 4 games all season jak in goal for 3.. played way less games simples marshall = worst signing in our history FACT £5m.. wasn't that long ago £1m was our record signing.. and we paid £5m for marshall. i repeat £5m..
Some people saying it was £3.5 million rising to £5 million with add ons. Don't suppose we'll find the true price until the finances are released next year.
How many of those goals could Marshall have done anything about? He was consistently shat on by the defence in front of him. Nobody has ever claimed Marshall has been on red hot form but 99.99% of the criticisms on here have been bullshit fairytales made up by the shirt wearing, soccer AM types who haven't a ****ing clue what they're on about. It's that bullshit that has been challenged.
I assume Im in the 0.01%? Seeing as 1. I aint up early enough to watch Soccer AM (didnt know it was still on either tbh) and 2. I look like a twat in a footy shirt.
So where are these points that Jak would have gained us? I'm sure you mean the howlers he made when there was one goal in it. Jak has the edge on current form, I totally agree. The £5m spent was a poor decision. Phelan clearly wasn't a Jak fan, but that's it really. I'd still put a wager on that between now and the end of the season, Hi Ho will give Marshall a run when his confidence is restored.
The opta stats make for a nice article but they are essentially bollocks, they just rank a shot based on speed, placement and distance and compare that to some stats in a database. There is no consideration of real in game factors like how the ball moves in the air or is the goal keeper unsighted. For example if a goalkeeper makes a save and palms the ball to an opposition player who taps it into an empty net, that's a mistake by the goalkeeper, however on these stats it would show as one save made and one save he was not expected to make, so it actually hides the fact that the goalkeeper is at fault. I agree there is a little truth in it, but ultimately you can only truly compare two goal keepers if they face the same shots, in the same game, under the same circumstances and that's just not possible.
I was one of the first to highlight, what I saw as, weaknesses in his game and that (this was the key thing) it was unfair and against the norm to drop an inform goalkeeper. Problem is that the criticism became too severe and ludicrous. David Marshall is one of ours and using these daft constructed facts to continue the nonsense sgainst him is petty and unnecessary. Having said that, I do believe we have the right man in goal, for now.
