The attitude of our captain is not acceptable, and he is not in my opinion the right person to captain the city,I have never thought that a goalkeeper should be in charge anyway,he is to far away from the action. And after being sent off for the second time in 4 matchs he should be stripped of the captaincy.

A bit OTT there Will - Marshall deserves his arse kicked for his rush of blood but other players like Whitts have got themselves sent off through petulance. I'm not excusing it, just saying it can happen to anyone in the heat of the moment - Fabio is a prime example of walking a tightrope through emotion.

The captaincy is an immotive subject and I agree with you that a keeper is not the best position on the pitch to influence your side. However, to strip Marshall of it through that incident and for that reason alone would be wrong.

A goalkeeper should not be captain in any event.

The ref cost us the opportunity to go on and win a sterile game at 0-0.

    No penalty.

No red card. 2 yellows at worst for Derbyshire and Marshall.

I also assumed it had been a wild kick by Marshall but watching on tv several times, could not see anything remotely justifying a red card.

I haven't seen it yet but my Mrs watched the highlights and agrees with you Nin. She said handbags at worst, some Ref's just love the chance to grab the limelight for a bit. Crook's rant about Mike Dean against Arsenal could easily be applied to our situation. Sending off should be the last option in cases like this, are we heading for a game where any contact or attempt to make contact with a player outside of open play could be construed as violent and therefore a red card.
The return of some common sense reffing would be appreciated by pretty much the entire football community imo.

No probs Will, and you're right about leading by example. It's just that the "offence" by Marshie was hardly deserving of a red card for it's severity.

Sticking a boot out toward a player is asking for it, but it was hardly a Joey Barton or Norman Hunter moment.

Time for a sin bin in football?

Professional fouls to stop an attack would disappear if you risked 10 mins in the bin. Also allow players to cool down if there's been a rush of blood.

Saying that, there's already a 5 a side version of the game, don't need another one!!!!

I have seen the highlights. if Marshall deserved a red card for that, then there is no hope for football. The assistant referee certainly said something to the referee, but he chose to ignore it. He'd already pulled out his red card. Can you accuse the referee getting caught up in the heat of the moment?
Is it time for a third eye for these types of incident?
As for Marshall and his captaincy, no he shouldn't be stripped of it, but like others, I believe an outfield player should be captain, a centre back or central midfield being my ideal choice.

I think it could work well Remote. Watching the RWC has eliminated all desire from me to see any kind on TV match official in the game but I can see how a sin bin could be used. There's a large gap between the yellow/red punishment that could be filled by a time out.

I don't want to see any tv match officials in football at all.
I just want referees to be consistent and competent.
I can accept human error on offsides etc but not for red cards decisions which are absolute game changers. Keep 11 men on he pitch unless there is absolute certainty that there has been a justifiable red card offence.
One problem though always has been the 2nd yellow. How many times has a bad tackle gone unpunished because the ref has already given a soft yellow?

Wayne Barnes used the 4th official very well in the France / Italy game, but I know in earlier games it was a pain. A few times you heard him ask the 4th official a question while he left play go on. I was annoyed with the situation where they awarded a try after consulting on one phase of play then looked at a different phase (the grounding of the ball) and disallowed it as a kicker was about to attempt the conversion.

They are very different sports so all instances wouldn't translate, but a couple of times in the rugby a ref saw foul play and asked for the reply so he could decide if it was just a penalty or if a yellow was needed. Also if he thought it more serious a yellow or a red. With the Marshal situation, once he stopped the game he could reflect on what the punishment should be.

I take the comment on a referee's competency, but there is so much gong on a ref can't see everything. Also, if something happens on the blind side a ref doesn't always see it.

The advantage in rugby is that touch judges are qualified referees and cover the whole line, not just to the half way. In rugby the officials work much more as a team than in football.

If it means getting the big calls right like should someone get sent off or was a foul inside or outside the box, it's worth the replay. It would stop the cheating bastards diving as well.

We probably wouldn't get it our level anyway tbh. If TMO ever did find it's way to football it would be a top tier thing.

Wayne Barnes is a top class ref (that hurt.... <laugh>). As shown by others the TMO is more often used as a safety net to avoid making big decisions. The flow of the England games was absolutely destroyed by the process.

They'd need to clarify the rules regarding holding in the penalty area as re-reffing the match on the tele would result in about 5 legitimate penalty claims a match.

The stick our best player and someone who has shown incredilble loyalty our club has had from a small section of our fans is embarrassing.
He could easily have pushed for a move to the PL which is where he should be. But no he stays with us. A great example of a top professional who im sure our younger players and team mates look up to.

He made a mistake - we lost - time to move on.

Hes stuck with us and he deserves our backing.

He should only stand down if he feels the pressure of captaincy is getting to him.

The keeper should never be captain. The captain is the main player on the pitch who relays instructions to his team mates and decides on set plays, How a keeper can do the job is beyond compensation and a bad decision by the manager who cant understand the vital roll of a captains job...

Im sorry you are wrong david made it clear he wanted to leave and play in the premier and I don't blame him for that ,but that is not loyalty, Lets be honest about this they are in it for the money in a short time time they have to play, and look after the security of the family. It really gets me when players grab their team badge when they score a goal and within a few weeks they move clubs. So to sum up yes there are a few who are loyal to their club but they are getting as rare as hens teeth.

I'm a little bit of both here.

I agree with William that Marshall would have definitely left if we'd accepted an offer.
There was talk of a phone call from Tan during the Brom interest, I would imagine if it happened it went something along the lines of if we're not in contention in Jan you can go and if we fail in May you can go.

I agree with Hilts that he's stayed and been professional about it. He's been a fantastic servant to this club and deserves respect for that.
I wouldn't have made him captain but now he is I certainly wouldn't take it off him for a handbags incident.

    Have City appealed?

I cannot see it being upheld if there is evidence of even the slightest kick at the player.

A 3 match ban for that though is just ridiculous.

Appeal apparently lodged but how the hell can the club justify that when Slade has already publicly said the Marshall deserved a red for his actions.

The fact that Derbyshire fouled him before the event and City should have been awarded a free kick does not exclude the retaliation from Marshall which would be described as "violent conduct". The incident itself was powder puff though, and maybe (just maybe) common sense will prevail - but I doubt it very much.

The problem is if they over turn the decision they are saying the ref was wrong. Technically he wasn't, he's just a dick.
