...thinks it'll be 'madness' for LFC to sell Torres. http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/opinion/columnists/mark-lawrenson/Mark-Lawrenson-on-Fernando-Torres-Why-Liverpool-selling-El-Nino-to-Chelsea-after-signing-Luis-Suarez-would-be-madness-article684217.html Firstly, he hasn't considered that we'd be getting Anelka, with PL experience, in exchange for him. Also, why would we want somebody in our starting 11 who we all expect to be laid on some other club's medical table next season? This is a guy who has us in 3rd or 4th in his predictions table so far this season, and thought United would lose to Spurs - I personally thought it had 0-0 or 0-1 written all over it. I'm not trying to attack Lawrenson, just some of the points he makes/fails to consider. He says some of the things that have been said here about the timing of the bid, and I agree with that and a lot of what he does say, but I think he's wrong on this. The summer would indeed be a preferable time to sell, but I think Torres' position is almost untenable now, so it's best to draw a line under it ASAP.
Don't want Anelka though, he's 32 in March! and I know he'd only really a short term replacement but I'd want someone that we could have for more than 2-3 seasons. I'd much rather Kalou. He's 25 and I've always thought he was a great little player and knowing that he'd be moving down the pecking order he'd be more willing to come to us. Failing that I'd take Essien and panic buy a striker!
Yeah, out of Anelka, Sturridge and Kalou I'd have the latter, but it seems (going by reports alone) that it's gonna be one of the first two. Although we could demand Kalou. From now til May though I think Anelka would do a job, assuming it'd be a loan deal.
To be honest, we could probably demand John Terry and they'd consider it. Players are meat at Chelsea
