Sorry guys - its obviously one of those days - i'm thinking of changing my name to Jonathan , well, maybe not.

I have a lot of contact with South Africa for various reasons, and have literally bumped into Mark Fish on 3 occasions, once in the club shop for him to sign his book for me, and then once in Leeds when he was with the Kaizer Chiefs Youth team , and then in a supermarket in Paarl near Cape Town (well, ok,twice bumped, and one intentionally).

It was sad to read recently that he had just got divorced, but also didnt know that he had , for the second time, been a victim of intruders into his home in SA, this after he had also had a similar problem at his house in Chislehurst (although i dont think they had an AK47 in Chislehurst).

Also, for those of you who were fans of Shaun Bartlett, you may be pleased to know that he is a regular on their Supersport Channel doing a similar job to Hansen on BBC here - this alongside Terry Paine, who regulars like Tewkes and Eddie may remember from 70's.

thats all for today folks, i promise.
I'll even start up my own personal thread if you want. !

Don't worry Stu, your trivia is of a considerably higher standard than Ackers' (and substantially lower frequency!). :)

I do indeed Stu - Terry Paine - what a player.

Fabulous crosser of a ball as Mick Channon and Dixie McNeil would no doubt agree.

Scored a hell of a lot of goals himself as well, must have been close to 200 and played 700+ games for Southampton.

Instrumental in 1966 as well, but as a wide player pretty much doomed to miss the final stages.

Loyal club man too, could have played at a higher level undoubtedly but chose to stay at Saints while they were in the old third and second divisions. I think he may have got all his England caps when Saints were outside the top flight - not many do that - Keith Newton's the only other one I can think of.

Johnny Haynes holds the record for most England caps gained outside the top flight (32) but he got another 24 while in the old Div One. I thought Don Rogers was capped while in the old Third Division but, once again, it seems my memory was at fault. But certainly in those days you got top level players playing large parts of their careers for smaller clubs. Nowadays the big clubs quickly hoover up anyone with a gleam of talent and they only drift back to smaller clubs once they have been labelled "rejects".
