Would be interested to see your views on what Mark Bowen has said, especially with regards to how he would expect the same from his players. Personally I am very surprised to see what he has said. http://www.talksport.co.uk/sports-n...n-insists-young-not-blame-qpr-red-card-169217 If you don't want to open the link, this is the article QPR assistant boss Mark Bowen insists he has no issue with Ashley Young over the incident which saw Shaun Derry sent off during the defeat at Manchester United. Derry conceded a penalty and was red-carded just 15 minutes into the Old Trafford clash after he was harshly adjudged to have fouled Young. The United winger was branded a diver by QPR chief executive Philip Beard after the 2-0 defeat, but Bowen claims Young was right to go down easily in the box and admits he would have expected his players to do the same. âOf course we thought the penalty to was harsh but in fairness there is no blame [attached] to Ashley Young,â the Welshman told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show. âHe felt contact and we are the first to say to our players âif you feel contact in the box, go downâ, because you are looking for any advantage you can get. If he feels contact, he is entitled to go down.â QPR are outside of the relegation zone only on goal difference following the loss to United but Bowen is confident of survival. "We have got a huge task ahead with the games we have got coming up and the teams we are playing but I have been saying for weeks now that there is real good feeling in the dressing room," he said. "The confidence has come flooding back with the results at home to Liverpool and Arsenal. We feel on our own home pitch we are a force again. If we can keep eleven players on the pitch, we feel in any game now we can pick points up."
Nice one Thai. ‘if you feel contact in the box, go down... because you are looking for any advantage you can get. If he feels contact, he is entitled to go down.” Since when did cheating become a right? It may be tactically expedient at times, we all know that, but to suggest publicly that it's the proper thing to do is nothing short of outrageous imo.
disgracefull comment....!! i understand the theory of getting an advantage...but really?..that was just blatant cheating as manure fans are admitting! i hope we aren't telling our young players to do that!
That is what I was shocked about - a public statement to that effect but of course what that also now does is opens a bit of a Pandora's box for QPR. If in the next 5 games your players start going down in and around the box to gain an advantage with minimal contact you know what's coming next.
For me this is a very disappointing quote, and I don't care if he is AM at Loftus Road My view has always been that players should attempt to keep playing, and then the referee can decide whether a penalty (or free kick) is appropriate
What an utter twat!!! Firstly it's wrong and I don't condone it. Secondly any referees that hear that will be thinking twice next time we have a shout so why advertise it??!! What a plonker, I'm at a loss to what to say. Hope MH strings him up!
Ugh! We all know this goes on but there is no way he should be encouraging it so publically. What kind of example is that setting for our kids? I'm sure no one wants more disruption at our club but that quote is enough for him to get his marching orders IMO.
Stupid to come out with this in public....thick as **** Bowen!! Sadly reflects the state of the game!!
Very disapointing comments from Bowen. Totally against my view on what's wrong or right. And on top of that, why advertise it like this, what possibly can he expect to gain from it?
Mackie does not listen to that advice. He always stays on his feet where possible. What a good ethic that young man has.
Must admit, I have enjoyed watching him this season. He has always given everything for the cause when he has played
I'm disgusted by this comment. Bowen has effectively admitted that he encourages our players to cheat. And we wonder why the game is in the state its in? Bircham said recently that in his soccer camps in Canada, the young lads were horrified when he tried to teach them how to go down in the box. Its being taught at the earliest age and is endemic in the game. I can't see how it can be rooted out now.
Disgraceful. It is a contact sport so why on earth does any form of contact count as a foul. If we have to slow footage down to super duper slow mo to see if his lace did in fact brush his ankle then it isnt a foul. I dont blame the ref for the penalty yesterday (I do for the offside though!) my first instinct told me it was a penalty. Ashley Young has conned the ref through cheating. A rugby like citing board must be brought in as the situation in football across the board has got ridiculous.
Amazing too that QPR Ass Manager, Bowen's public comments advocating cheating followed so closely in the wake of QPR Manager, Hughes' public comments to the contrary... Pisses all over the moral high ground. Thought these two were bright and tight. Just makes the club look that much more pathetic than even our lowly league position suggests - to the outsider anyways.
I agree! Also a very stupid comment to make publicly as it will reduce the chances of our diving being successfull! Way the game is going they should probably simply say that any contact in the box is illegal, and punishable by a penalty - at least this should be more clear and cut out some of the advantage being gained by cheating.
While this thread depressed me at the start -what a stupid and reprehensible comment and practice - I then started to be encouraged by the 100% condemnation of Bowen in all responses. Says a lot about QPR supporters and what we value. You Rs!!!!!!!
