    Maribor Info

The Slovenians have earned a point from their first two Champions League group games of the season.

That came courtesy of a 1-1 home draw with Spartak Moscow back in September, which was followed by a chastening 3-0 defeat at Sevilla last month.

    The boss

Maribor coach Darko Milanic may be familiar to English football fans thanks to a winless 32-day stint in charge of Leeds United back in 2014.

But the Izola-born boss has five league titles and four Slovenian Cups to his name across two spells with Maribor.

Milanic picked up his trophy-winning habit as a player with Partizan Belgrade and Sturm Graz in Austria, and earned 42 caps for Slovenia, who he captained at Euro 2000.

    The players

Despite their lofty position in the Slovenian top-flight and status as the league's third highest goalscorers, Maribor's collection of forward players have not proven particularly prolific this season.

Incredibly, their top marksman so far this term is four-goal forward Jasmin Mesanovic, while last season's leader in that regard, Luka Zahovic, has yet to find the back of the net as he bids to build on a 15-goal campaign.

The club's all-time top goalscorer, Brazilian forward Marcos Tavares, remains their biggest threat.

    Head-to-head

Liverpool have never taken on Maribor in a competitive game, though they have travelled to Slovenia once before for a European fixture.

That came in 2003, when the Reds were held to a 1-1 draw by Olimpija Ljubljana in the first leg of a first-round UEFA Cup tie, with Michael Owen scoring the visitors' goal.

    LFC News

Liverpool have named a 21-man squad for Tuesday night's Champions League tie with Maribor.

The Reds face the Slovenian champions in their third game of Group E, following draws with Sevilla and Spartak Moscow so far in the campaign.

Liverpool squad: Karius, Wijnaldum, Lovren, Milner, Firmino, Coutinho, Salah, Gomez, Henderson, Sturridge, Grujic, Klavan, Moreno, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Mignolet, Can, Robertson, Solanke, Matip, Ward, Alexander-Arnold.

Karius back in goal tomorrow, is it any ****ing wonder Mignolet feels under pressure when he turns out for us, average defence in front of him and being rotated on the back of a clean sheet.

If it goes tits up don't blame Karius blame Klopp and Mignolet will be under more added pressure in his next game.

didn't JK say that Karius was going to play the CL games ?.
Still think he is the preferred option for JK but Karius needs to justify it by performing well.

Always been a believer in keeping the same keeper in as many games as possible throughout the season, the defence get to know his game which gives confidence.
Back in the day the only time our reserve keeper got a look in was in early league cup games and friendlies.
Tomorrow is a massive game, i reckon if Mignolet was chosen and kept a clean sheet his confidence would be sky high in our next league game.

But Klopp knows what he's doing...cough....cough!

He did say that at the beginning.
It does suggest that he really wants Karius to be first choice eventually, but I'm really not convinced by him.

I'm not a big fan of keeper rotation either. All I can say is that I think tomorrow's game will be more dependent on our attack getting back on song.

Not so sure it'll just be down to that saint, they're not a bad side at home, and they've managed draws there against Chelsea and Spurs in recent years, we've gotta be looking for more than a draw( or worse <yikes> )

a win would be a big step towards progression to the KO stage but the most important thing tonight is not to lose as that would put huge pressure on the reverse fixture.

Not sure why he announced which keeper for which competition at start of the season. It should always go on merit. It also means Karius gets the gig whether he's up to it or not.
