This isn't a wind up but a genuine question to the people on here old enough to know. She was generally disliked and there has been jokes about her impending death for the last decade but what did she do that was so bad? I'm too young to remember her stint in power well and so are a lot of others who are rejoicing in her death, most of whom weren't even born! People are acting like so was some sort of modern hitler.
She was one of the greatest leaders this country has ever had. As I understand the Vatican Bishops are meeting tomorrow to discuss possibly making her a saint. St Margret the patron saint of greatness.
I have no axe to grind with Maggie, that's why I have not commented today and I agree that she is being painted as a cross between Atilla the Hun, Vlad the Impaler and Charles Manson. She was not evil incarnate because she did a lot of good things and that seems to have been erased from people's minds somewhat. For instance, If anyone owns a Council House then they have Maggie to thank.
That's my slight memories and from what i've seen about the falklands and you have to smirk at all the hatred on Facebook/internet from the comfort of ex council houses!
Thatcher was the leader of a political party... She didnt make polcies on her own. She had a team of advisers. MPs voted for her parties policies. The UK voted for her party. So, why all the hate for one person? Her party did a great deal of good for the UK overall ... they made some bad decisions, but haven't all political parties? Yes, towards the end, the Tories made more bad decisions than good at the time... Poll Tax and Crimanal Justic Bill being to examples. Pity she didn't quit about 3/4 years earlier as she woudl have left a more positive legacy. You a share holder? You/your parents own a council house? You anti-unions? Thanks you Mrs Thatcher. The party under her leadership invested in climate change projects . Promoted health education on HIV/Aids epidemic. Never backed down to terrorists. Solid econimic reforms - controlling inflation. Kept Europe at a distance ... trade = yes, euro = no!
She wasn't generally disliked that's why she won 3 general elections. She may have been disliked by the work shy scrounges, but she was very popular with the majority of the country. I liked her and I liked her policy's. The worst Prime minister we ever had was Tony Blair, he has destroyed this country to the point of no return
And all the families who lost their homes when the **** threw them on the dole have Thatcher to thank
When did I say that? A terrible policy/a bad political move... she was advised not to go ahead but her stubborness was her downfall.
If the work shy ****s did what Tebbitt told them and "got on their bike" they could have saved their homes.
We had less foreigners and more money when she was in charge.. The country is ****ed beyond repair now ,so i quite liked her.. <UKIP Candidate for Newham London Mr S Norwich>
