This is my first post on here but is something that I keep find myself considering for some time and really want to know wether others agree or not. It seems that the general opinion is that the club has more or less stagnated since Marcus Evans bought the club and it is my feeling, especially following such a disappointing year it is time that we got to meet Mr Evans properly. I understand people's need for privacy but I believe that in this case enough is enough, I feel in the past few years the club has changed so much from the one I started supporting only 20 years ago and not just on the pitch; that we as fans deserve the chance, im not saying that this will solve our problems but I think that the club is suffering from this estranged relationship and that it will at the very least start to help the fans understand how and where the club is heading.
He apparently brought in Clegg partly to present ME to the public and exercise some judgment by proxy. A sort of Prime Minister as Queen/King in Parliament, if visiting Norwich zeroids will allow the exaggerated comparison. Rather like his choice in managers, it seems to have gone pretty horribly wrong so far! I donât think heâll bin the last three years of anonymity (if it can be so classified), and if his next choice of manager works out (Iâm assuming here that PJ isnât about to work a miracle) nobody will notice the âfacelessnessâ of the owner anymore. A lot of people have commented on the change in the general atmosphere about the club, but I suspect itâs mainly the continued, tortuous depression of hideous, constant under-achievement. Weâre all understandably miserable and tetchy and looking to find a target or two to rail at.
Welcome Blue87. In my opinion (hindsight's a wonderful thing) we have gone about things the wrong way since ME's money came to us. He initially thought that by throwing cash about and buying players with prem experience that this would lead us to promotion. This has turned out to be not the case and it has not been since JM left that we have actually had any balance to the side. Keane's appointment was supposed to bring Ipswich into the limelight, and it did, but for all the wrong reasons. Jewell inherited an unbalanced and unattractive side and did the business he could in the summer. A lot of us were surprised at the players we got in and nobody could have invisaged that we would be as poor as we have been up until now. Not sure if it's wise to give PJ this transfer window to make changes or not. He, like Keane, does make some strange decisions about starting line-ups and subs that leave me baffled and wondering whether he is up to the job or not. We need to abandon this notion that players stepping down from the prem is the way to go and find lower league/championship players who will relish the chance to play for a bigger club. Even if they only come to us with the hope of drawing attention from prem clubs but they do well I could probably live with that.
Interesting to see if Ipswich have any money to spend next January with Evans focusing on building a secret underwater base to kill James Bond and that.
What staggers me is that the money is there to invest, it has been invested, and we would probably be better off if we'd not spent a penny. A smattering of experience here and there of course but only two of these players are anywhere near the first team and they would put their aged counterparts to shame, that's for sure!!!: Supple, Cresswell, Smith, Eastman, Ainsley, O'Connor, Peters, Lambe, Garvan, Hyam, Rhodes, Haynes, Carson, Clarke, Murray, Wickham!!!
I don't often pick up a match day programme so could someone tell me if Evans ever does a piece in the programme, if so how often? I just checked the website and found the 'Managers/Chief Executive View' articles. Jewell's was much as you would expect, Clegg attempts to gloss over the fact we lost 8 out of 10 by talking about the Barnsley and Derby victories and then wittered on about some walls or something being painted in the stadium - because that's what the fans are worried about! Anyway, I feel if things were going well we would all be much more accepting of Evans' decision to remain hidden, compared to having some owners who roll in with a load of money, big smiles and new scarves in the teams colours, looking like a kid with a new toy only to find out they haven't a clue about football. Compared to that an owner who funds the club but let's footballing men do the rest would be ideal, unfortunately this isn't happening with us. Just some contact, some insight to the views of the man that is essentially running the club would be nice, doesn't have to be visual, just something in writing every now and then!
Isn't ME supposed to have been an Ipswich fan all his life? If so surely he can't be happy to watch that shower of **** week in, week out.
couldnt agree more, We have done what most clubs do when they have a bit of money and go rather mad like a kid in a sweet shop. Although on a smaller scale our situation is the same as both Chelsea and Man City after their take overs when they signed players because they could rather than because they were needed. A decent scout and a strewd judge for a manager is potentially a lot better than any bank balance. On ME in general we have gone down hill since his takeover but I dont allocate much blame to him and I dont see any reason why his status should make him free for anyone to intrude in his life. He has made it clear that he doesnt appreciate the public spotlight and I can quite understand the reasons why. In some ways I think its nice that we havent got an egomaniac self publicist as an owner and I imagine alot of other fans dont know all of their major shareholders by name, just as you dont with many major businesses. ME has entrusted the running and public face of this club to Simon Clegg and it is he who should be a regular voice from the club. It does seem amazing that a man with his experience and knowledge seems to disapear for the majority of the season and I would guess that if/ when we get ourselves to a winning team that we will see a lot more of him. For a successful business man it does seem amazing that ME seems to appoint some rather poor choices to be the leading men at the club.
