Rumours.... Marcus Beauchamp - our youth keeper - is getting a lot of interest from clubs. He is currenly trialling with Arsenal, also had talks with Blackburn and Chelsea are showing an interest too. http://www.tribalfootball.com/artic...utm_source=taxonomy_landing_page#.U5igRkBn3uB Olly Mehew - our youth striker and son of former Rovers player David Mehew - is also getting a lot of interest from clubs. He is currently trialling with Blackburn and getting a lot of interest from Spurs, Everton and Fulham. He was previously close to sealing a deal with Norwich back in January but the deal fell through. http://www.tribalfootball.com/artic...vers-prospect-olly-mehew-4026068#.U5ihOkBn3uB
Apparently Beauchamp has signed for Norwich so thats more money coming into the club which will be peanuts! Maybe a friendly fixture built into the deal!
Makes you wonder if investing in youth is worth it. Every time we have a player with even the remotest prospect of some ability some big club takes them.
Yes and having filled it with lower league players they want a league of their own so that no one will be able to move from Conference to League 2
It wouldn't be so bad if we got a few million for them if it was a Leeds youngster going to a Prem side then they would get a seven figure fee.
Ollie Mehew has finally completed a long-awaited move to Blackburn Rovers. http://www.bristolpost.co.uk/Bristo...igher-league/story-21321969-detail/story.html Rovers will receive compensation for both players along with Santos. Head of youth Tom Curtis said: "These two deals and the departure of Alefe Santos earlier this week reflects well on both the investment and work that is being done within our youth department. You always look to develop players for your own club first and foremost, but with Premier League scouts at almost all of our games it is inevitable that you will lose one or two along the way. That is a sign that we are doing something right and in the instances where a young player leaves then we benefit from a financial point of view."
Hopefully they will keep the academy going. I would have thought that these sorts of academies are crucial to the development of the next generation. I think the Scott Sinclair experience shows how a decent player like that can end up getting lost in Man City reserves and then get farmed out here and there until their career is ruined. In my opinion it is much better to let clubs that can offer first team football nurture their talent properly. Then again, just look how we nurtured Bobby Zamora...
