Reports coming out that Marco Reus has a 29.4 million pound release clause: http://espnfc.com/news/story/_/id/1613756/borussia-dortmund-reveal-marco-reus-release-clause?cc=5739 That's not bad, let's go for it! Add Reus, a top quality striker in the summer, a 4th choice CB, and business is done.
Maybe but arguably we didn't need Ozil (had enough AM's) but a step up in quality is a step up. Lars Bender is better than Arteta and Flamini also at 24 is gonna get better. I don't think we will get Reus and a St so unless we get Suarez/Falcao/Cavani/etc - the true elites I would rather get someone like Reus and go with Pod/Giroud/Theo upfront.
To be honest, we have a better chance of getting Suarez than Reus. No way will Dortmund let go another star player so soon. Plus Dortmund is riding high at the moment.
Actually will be far easier to get Reus (the release clause and all) the stickler will be whether he would join us. Summer is a more likely bet. If we can go far in CL an Title push I think we have a chance - we can offer much higher wages than Dortmund also with so many of there players transfer targets for bigger clubs he may not see leaving as that bad. The issue is with a release clause of only 29-30mn if one of the bigger clubs come a knocking we are ****ed. That being said many of the big clubs filled up their WF/ST positions recently - the one interested needing a change would be Man Utd, Monaco, and us. Bayern, barca, PSG, Real have had big signings so it is a narrow window. But a player of his quality at that price most clubs would be tempted.
Thats the big question, would he leave a successful team with a top manager in his home country to join an Arsenal team in transition? Probably not right now, but the release clause does make things easier. I still think that Suarez wants to leave Liverpool and if Real do not step in, he would gladly come to us. The problem is prying him away from the Puds....
We should definitely go for Reus, he is just the type of quality we should be looking to add. Also Suarez will leave Liverpool if they don't make top four, which at the moment they look like they will, but I think they could fade in the new year. The trouble is that Utd, City and the big spending spuds all look like one of them could miss out on a top four spot too.
Lets face it, Liverpool have an uphill task to get top 4. The bankers are Arsenal, Man City, Chelsea and then Manure and Spurs. Liverpool has a paperweight squad with a fair amount of crappy players mixed in, I just don't see them making it. Suarez should really leave that pants team now before he ends up 6th or 7th in the summer.
What might be a funny scenario is if the Spuds take a top four spot at the expense of Liverpool and Suarez joins Arsenal as a result.
Why do you think Reus would move from Dortmund to Arsenal ??? He was laughing when asked about a possible move to Arsenal earlier this year.
The difference being Dortmund aren't going to be spending 80m on a Bale anytime soon, thus the requirement to sell a star player.
They'll need to spend some money to replace Lewandowski who will be leaving either in Jan or in the summer. They'll to find the money for that, as yet unknown, striker depending on what they get for Lewa. They may sell Reus to us to fund the shortfall.
Unlike Ozil, Reus has said that he would not join Arsenal, and anyway, why do we need him? Because some Arsenal fans have a soft sport for this guy? He is a godd player, but we are packed inthis posiriiton, this money should be better spent on a central forward.
Straight swap... we'll give them a striker with 21 international goals in 43 starts. In return we'll take Reus off their hands who only has 7 international goals in 16 starts. Done deal?
