    Via John Percy

Albrighton, the winger, is set to leave and join Championship winners Leicester City on a free transfer.

Villa have not offered the former trainee a new deal and Leicester are understood to have promised a £30,000 a week contract, which doubles his current salary.

Hmm slightly worrying that we would be doubling the wages of somebody out of contract...

... that might be 'indicative' i.e with built in bonuses etc rather than 'basic' ... it would certainly be a lot to pay for someone that wasn't a 'regular' starter for Villa ... Kasper is different - I can understand the money for him in tying him down to a four year deal over a period during which he will get better and better (as goalies do through that age range)

Think we can take proffered wages to Shmike and Albrighton with a pinch of salt. Nobody has any idea of the offered amounts apart from the club, players and agents. Suspect it is exaggerated journalism after hearing about the £180m that Top mentioned. Villa are really in the mire with Lerner refusing to plough more money in to the club whilst he is looking for a buyer. May be some other bargains to be had there.

I really like this player and think he would be an excellent addition. I take the rumoured wages with a pinch of salt and totally trust Pearsons judgement in getting value for money.
(I see an earlier rumour of Craig Gardner, has signed for West Brom from Sunderland...phew!)

I'd be happy with this, couldn't really care much about prospective wages as long as we get good players, and Albrighton is a good player. Stalled a little after his early promise but he's still young and would fit in well with the squad and gives us a different option and PL experience.

If this happens & turns out to be a good signing I´ll come back on here at the end of the season & say **** me I was wrong again. (I thought KS was a bad buy... at first) He´s o.k but I´m not sure.

With the amount of money sloshing about in the Premier League, 30k a week isn't really all that much.

I predict you will be saying you were wrong way before the end of the season (if we sign him!)

Yeh but the fact he was (apparently) only on £15k, and Villa let his contract run down... £30k seems a bit steep/unnecessary...

Can't see these being the type of players Nige would bring in.
