Firstly, congratulations to Mapps for being Player of the Season. It looks like we're about to lose the 4th POTS in a row (DG, Cleverley and TS - at least TS won it 2 seasons in a row before leaving). On the assumption that he does go, who will be vice-captain? I think it'll be MT as SD will go with another defender, having been one himself. Unfortunately, I can't see too many candidates.

Now, the shirt numbers. If AM does go, I'd like the no. 6 shirt to go to Nos as I think you should "promote" from within. Using the same logic, I would give Hogg the no. 8 shirt that has finally been vacated by Josh Walker.

Give them 1-11 for the players, 12-16 for the subs. and do away with squad numers. This could save the club money on shirts. ;)

Yes Barry that seems logical. Although I do hate all the high numbers on the pitch. I hope that at the start of the season our one to eleven look like our more or less starting eleven.

i agree Barry, though i'm not sure it'll be Tiny. His contract is up, are we sure he's going to sign another one?

H, I was just looking at those who are currently at the club. We may have a similar situation to the one at Northampton, where someone (Clarke Carlisle in their case, although he was made captain) comes in and they're given it.

I would number the team as follows:

    Keeper 1
    understundy keeper 10
    Youth/3rd choice Keeper 11

    Right Back 2
    Understudy 21
    Youth Right back 22

    Left back 3
    Understudy 31
    Youth 32

    Midfielder 4
All the rest of the central midfield 41 to 49

    5, 6, 51, 61 etc. Centre backs

    Wingers 7, 71 etc

    Support Striker 8, 81

    Target men 9, 91

It would be a bit of a departure from the norm but it but at least it would restore a link between shirt numbers and the players position

I see you've done away with the left wingers I would have liked to see someone with 111 on their back, that way OFH could get a shirt with his age on :emoticon-0110-tongu:emoticon-0184-tmi::emoticon-0111-blush

Presuming Mapps is going and that we cant/dont sign a new goalie, then:-

    1: Loach
    2: Hodson
    3: Dickinson
    4: *new signing*
    5: Nosworthy
    6: Hogg
    7: Murray
    8: *new signing*
    9: *new signing*
    10: Deeney
    11: Forsyth

Perhaps it would be simpler to put a diagram of the pitch on the back of the player's shirt with a huge star stitched to where he is meant to be playing?

....or 666, reserved for players like Ellington. ;)

Didn't think that one through, vic. The diagram would have to be on the back of the player next to him - otherwise he may well spend numerous periods of time taking his shirt off to check where he should be. Although, come to think of it, I suppose he'd only be able to take it off twice during a match - two bookings then off. :)

Britt Assombalonga should have squad number 1 either as the squad numbers are in alphabetic order or longest name smallest number.
