Anyone watching the ManU game who saw a near full strength Spurs taken apart will appreciate the gulf between the sides. Modric dropped himself so I believe he is not a Spurs player for much longer.

From the opening fixtures, we've seen Chelsea struggle to grind results, Liverpool draw the Mackems and beat Arsenal through at least one very flaky goal, Arsenal who show nothing of last years form. What it shows is the slim differences between success and failure.

Newcastle have kept clean sheets in the two opening fixtures which is fantastic and I believe confidence grows from keep getting good results , often from difficult sides on paper.

We should remember we had no Carroll from January and still managed a credible position, and we surely have improved the squad.

Nothing I've seen so far leads me to think we cannot have another cracking season ( but can someone put something in Rooney's tea before we play them)?

Or arrange for him to have a heavy granny night out the night before before the game.

Early days yet mate. If we can keep the rest of the squad together and get the LB and goal scorer we need i cant see why we cannot finish round 10th. My big worry is who might be sold in the next 9 days.

Hardly a full strength Spurs they were missing a whole MF, Modric would have made a difference, and Huddlestone wasnt fit, ManUre were impressive but could have been a different game if Spuds didnt have a young kid and a winger in CM

I honestly think Spurs will struggle this season. I think its so open this year its unreal. We just need to keep plodding along and keep getting results and you never know where we might end up!!

Modric dropped himself! Hardly professional conduct and certainly wouldn't have given his best last night. I bet Spurs wish they'd kept Berbatov!

Doesn't seem to figure in Fergies plans, maybe he could be on his way back.

Another cracking season? Was last season cracking? We started well and it was shambles after x-mas. As for... your general up-beat-ness, I admire it, but can't fathom where it comes from.

I fear we will have real trouble scoring from open play. I just can't see where our goals are coming from. I'm glad we've tight at the back and long may it continue.

Spurs are a good team and will finish 4,5,6,7. There's no way we're anywhere close to competing with teams like that. Come on. We beat the Mackems just about, and Arsenal were all over the place when we played them. Let's see if we can beat Fulham.

Rooney's really a cracking player now. He's like Tevez in character with more footballing skill, maybe not quite as clinical in front of goal but as an offensive influence he's world class now.

It's clear we bought Ba to add to our strike options..and hope to sign one more......that's where the firepower will come from......as for Spurs they really pulled it out of the bag last year at SJP but I think the side is going through a tough patch and it's clear they showed very little passion last night.

i was watching the man utd game last night with my mate and his dad who are both man utd crackers and danny welbeck was ****ing terrible the first half. we were giving it the biggin' saying they should take him and cleverly off. my exact words were "they might as well take welbeck off, he's been total ****e and theres no way he's gonna score..." no sooner did the words leave my lips then clev dinked in the ball and welbeck scores a good header. then proceeds to give it some flashy overhead kicks, skins 4 people with a surging run from his own half and skillfully backheels for anderson to slot home. i couldn't stop laughing for the rest of the game.

i'm going to have to say something similar about one of our players next game...

Welbeck had a really good game though, it'll have done his confidence the world of good.

no he had a good half hour. honestly he did nothing but lose possesion the first half. he should have been off at half time. admitedly that half an hour was probably enough to change him from their worst player to their MOTM. rooney looked head and shoulders above everyone else on the pitch though. and i tell you something else. Phil jones is the future england captain. mark my words. hes the closest thing to john terry ive seen for a long time.

Hmmm, Manure barely controlled the whole of their first game and Spurs were far too open in the final 3rd. Rooney's goal was a good cross/header but Dawson was horribly flat footed!

I think writing off the Manure game, as I did with the L'Arse game is a good way to avoid disappointment but I can see, unfortunately, us expecting something from Fulham (after the previous 2 performances/results) and being let down - its early days and its Newcastle!

If half an hour was enough to change him to MOTM it would suggest he did indeed have a good game then.

You don't get MOTM for having a bad one.

Spurs were nowhere near full strength, no Huddlestone, Sandro, Modric, King, Gallas or Crouch.

After the goal he was a different player in my opinion, more 'cause he was willing to do more audacious things after the confidence boost of getting the goal.

He wasn't terrible before, he just looked a fraction off the pace (when Manure were playing one-touch around the 20/30 yard mark he looked a little lost).

I thought that Man Utd looked prety good last night, especially when you look at how many youngsters were playing for them, but spurs seemed to lack any bite and let them play.

I didn't like Defoe's kick on the keeper. I thought that it was needless and cowardly, sums Defoe up IMHO
