Would be happy with a point and would take it right now Mansfield are up in 5th place and have only lost two games so far they did lose at home 4-1 to Hartlepool last week but that doesn't mean anything we can't score for **** and are defence may be minus to CB and at this moment time looking extremely dodgy. So I'm going for a repeat of last weekends score 3-1 win for The Stags (hope I'm wrong )
I'd like to see Clarkson back, and Kenneth might come in although Lockyer's played at centre back against Scunthorpe and played well, so he could step in perhaps if either Parkes or McChrystal are unavailable (if he doesn't get called up by Wales). I didn't mind our formation last week, we've just got to play better.
And here are some details of previous visits of Mansfield from the memory bank. April 2002 - Mansfield 2-0 Rovers - Can't remember who scored, but it pretty much secured Mansfield's promotion that season. April 2004 - 0-0 - It was Easter Monday, that's all I remember here! August 2004 - 2-0 win - Junior Agogo scored both as Ian Atkins won his first game in charge, and he had a pretty good first 2 months or so before it tailed off slightly... December 2005 - 3-3 - Mansfield 2-0 up at half-time, both scored by Richie Barker, now Crawley boss. I think it was James Hunt who pulled one back before Richard Walker equalised. Alex Russell made it 3-2 to Mansfield but Walker equalised with almost the last kick. My reaction when I saw the goal come up on Sky Sports News is still fresh in the memory! April 2007 - 1-0 win - Our most recent visit, game immediately followed JPT final. Steve Elliott scored the winner in the first half with a backheel after Craig Disley had hit the crossbar from about two yards out. So not a bad record, now for 3 points on Saturday.
Manager on Saturday's game John Ward will be without a number of players for this Saturday’s trip to Mansfield, but the manager sees this as a chance for other people to step up. Ellis Harrison and Seanan Clucas are away on international duty, while Matt Harrold and Mark McChrystal could miss the game with injuries. John said: “Ellis and Seanan are away with their under 21 teams, which is great for them and good for the football club, but we could do with them at Mansfield. “Tom Lockyer should be available, he us on stand-by for Wales, but they have not called him up, and I have my fingers crossed they don’t do that. “Mark McChrystal has tendonitis of the knee and will need three to six weeks rest. “I am going to speak with him today to see if there is one more game left in him, as we could do with that if we could get him out there. But there is no way I will risk his career or his fitness to do that. “Mark epitomises what we are trying to get throughout the squad, and if he is fit and able to play I am sure he will be out there, he is a good person to have around. “Matt Harrold is struggling with a groin injury, and he is unhappy with it, so he is a doubt for Saturday “If he is not able to play then we have to go without him and move on with the boys who are available to play.” The manager will also be without Garry Kenneth, but Matt Gill is available if called upon. John said: “Garry joined in the training session on Monday but he couldn’t finish the session because he is injured again. “Matt Gill is fit and well, the possibility of him going out on loan is still available to him, and we will see what develops. “If he is required on Saturday, which he may be, to be in the squad, he will do that. “He is a really good pro, we will help him as much as we can and if he is required at Bristol Rovers, he will do the same for us.” The manager believes his side will be in for a tough battle, after Mansfield attempt to bounce back after two defeats at home. He said: “We are training well it has been a good week. It will be a tough one; they have just lost two at home, and some people might look at that and think they move another one, but you don’t often do that. “They will be annoyed at their couple of defeats, and looking to take it out on us, so we have to be prepared for that. “The whole league is full of mixed results, and we have to go there and tighten our game a little bit and make sure we are in for a battle, and we have to be strong.” And John is keen to take the positives from last Saturday’s performance, despite the disappointing result. He said: “Football is full of ifs and buts, but it is results that count. We did put in a good performance, but it gets changes by the two late goals against us. “We have got to remind the players that for a large part of that game and stayed with it. “We have got to stay with it, keep the confidence of the players as high as we can, and if we can go and get a result at Mansfield it will take us on.”
Information on tomorrow's game The Opposition: After a fantastic month in September, which saw them pick up three wins and a draw, the Stags will be disappointed with their results so far this month. They have lost their last two home games on the bounce; going down 4-1 to Hartlepool last Saturday, before being beaten 1-0 by Chesterfield in the JPT in midweek. Despite the disappointments, they still sit in 5th place in the league. Latest news from Mansfield is that Keiran Murtagh is in line to make his first League Two start with fellow midfielder Jamie McGuire suspended. Ritchie Sutton is a doubt after being concussed in Tuesday's 1-0 Johnstone's Paint Trophy defeat to Chesterfield, but may be considered. John Ward’s Comments: “We are training well it has been a good week. It will be a tough one; they have just lost two at home, and some people might look at that and think they move another one, but you don’t often do that. “They will be annoyed at their couple of defeats, and looking to take it out on us, so we have to be prepared for that. “The whole league is full of mixed results, and we have to go there and tighten our game a little bit and make sure we are in for a battle, and we have to be strong. Opposition View: Stags boss Paul Cox said: “There are no easy games at this level as we saw last week. I hope our mindset will be better on Saturday and we play with fresh impetus from Tuesday. I hope we can carry on that performance but get a better result. “The main thing now is not to be complacent. It was a good performance on Tuesday but that’s all. This game is all about winning and if we can play like Tuesday but get three points on the board as well we will be starting to head in the right direction.” Last Meeting: Mansfield Town 0-1 Bristol Rovers Rovers last visit to Field Mill was on 7 April 2007 when Steve Elliott secured maximum points for Rovers. Team News: Ellis Harrison and Seanan Clucas are away on international duty, while Matt Harrold is a doubt with a groin injury. Mark McChrystal has tendonitis of the knee and will need a rest of 3-6 weeks, but he may be available to play this weekend. Garry Kenneth picked up an injury on Monday, but Matt Gill is available if needed. Tickets: This match is all ticket for away supporters. Tickets are priced at £18 for adults, £13 for concessions (students and 60+), £8 for U16s and free for U6s. this is the team that ward will pick.... ..................mildenhall................... smith....lockyer....parkes....brown norburn....clarke....o'toole....bond .............richards.... brunt............. subs: gough keary southway gill santos harding clarkson
Hang on! We've got 2 away on international duty? Surely we should call the game off, just like the spineless and winless lot across town! Obviously they're ****ting themselves, it would have been Crawley after all
need 3 on international duty to be called off and 7 days notice given to call off the game. so if from last sunday onwards another player got picked for international duty which would make 3 players away, we wouldnt be allowed to call off the game as not enough notice given. clucas was our man of the match last week and we will miss him today!
Official: Keeper and Defence as we expected with Lockyer filling in at CB for McChrystal. Midfield the same as last week with Norburn RW and Bond LW but with Clarke filling in at CM for Clucas. Clarkson playing alongside Brunt in a 442 formation but expect Clarkson to move behind Brunt at times in a 4411 formation. Starting 11: Midenhall, Smith, Parkes, Lockyer, Brown, Norburn, O'Toole, Clarke, Bond, Clarkson, Brunt Subs: Gill, Richards, Gough, Goddard, Santos, Keary, Southway
