hull fan here in peace, its no secret that our club loves vito mannone and would do anything it seems to have him back. but having played three games for arsenal without conceding a goal, only to see szechney (apologies on the spelling) regain his place to practically throw southampton a goal, do you guys see mannone as a future number one? what are his chances? sorry if there's another thread like this.
I think his chances are very slim. Wenger has praised him after two clean sheets, and rightly so, but to be honest, Vito had not produced anything extraordinary, he was just as solid as any 2nd choice keeper should be in EPL. And we have Fabianski who is rated incredibly highly by the Boss ( Wenger said recently that Fabianski could be the best goalkeeper in the Premier League if not his lack of confidence. This is weird but he sees the Pole in training every day and would not say such things just to make him happy). I think these two games with Mannone in goal have somewhat convinced Wenger that if Fabianski leaves for another club to play, then we would not have to buy a backup for Szczesney. I do not know if it is good enough for Mannone, but WS is our established No 1 and most probably will keep his place unless he gets too complacent. I guess Mannone would be more than happy to go back to Hull if you return to Premier League.
Hmm I dunno. Sczezney is younger with the greater potential but Mannone has been playing well. Im not sure Sczezney should be dropped after just the one error but if he continues his poor form then Wenger should give the Italian his chance.
Ferguson regularly 'punishes' De Gea for poor performances by benching him. Don't know if it does him any good, but no player should be comfortable knowing they will play no matter their form.
I think it's good that Mannone is pushing Szczesny, it will keep him on his toes. But Szczesny is No1 for me
Szezeney has been poor for the last 6 month. He was playing well towards the end of last season and played ****e in the Euros for Poland and hasnt started off this season too brightly. The guys kicking is pathetic.
Wenger has said Ches is still no1, so I'd expect him to start tomorrow. He's said a keeper doesn't deserve to be dropped for one mistake. Really hope Chezzer finds his form, the defense looks good but a solid keeper is essential.
Are people this fickle? A couple of poor games by Chesney and people who loved him not long ago want rid of him for a guy who nobody liked the same amount of time ago. Where's the loyalty?
yeh but tbh you don't want a goal keeper to do anything extraordinary unless they are called upon to do so, all he can do is continue to be solid and not make any mistakes, and he is going to start tomorrow because scezney is injured so it is another chance for him.
I have criticized him last year as well for risking and going out of his goal for absolutely no reason plenty of times. He got extremely lucky in multiple situations getting away without a red or not conceding. But people tend to forget his ****ups if the opposing team doesn't capitalize heavily on them. Fact of the matter is against 90% of our PL rivals we won't be the ones needing hero goalkeeper performances. Our keeper will be tested a lot less than theirs, which means the importance of the "basic" stuff is increased. By basic I mean: - knowing when to attack a ball from corners/crosses, and when to stay put - knowing when to punch away, and when to hold/bounce off the ground - knowing when to come out of goal, and when it's not worth it - remembering to communicate with your defender when you walk to his back in the League Cup final... that type of stuff The goal is the last place you'd want to have a showboater. I'd love it if he gets told to play it safer, and not risk doing stupid hero moves.
