"The boss has had some nice words for me [after Montpellier], he talked to me and he said I am ready for the No. 1. I had two clean sheets in the first two games I played [this season] and, before the Southampton game, the boss talked to me and, for the first time, I felt he understood that I was ready to be No. 1."

He also gives us this classic: "Every goalkeeper has his own path," he explained. "I had bad times and I just rolled up my sleeves and worked hard. Then, I thought 'Let's go to Hull'. Nobody wants to go there, really, but I found myself really well."

Does he have it in him to take the No.1 from Chesney for a while?

I can not grasp the concept of a "No 1 goalkeeper for a while".
These days a footballer plays one or two good games and immediately starts talking. And he talks and talks and talks about his aspirations, experience, desire, plans, form etc etc. First Diaby who became a sudden God ( I believe - for a while) and his revelations are all over the media. Now Mannone - one good game and we know everything about the guy - from the color of his dummy to the size of his pants. It really is annoying. If I were FIFA President, I would have banned footballers from talking entirely. The sport would benefit enormously.

To be fair, it's not as if Vito called a press conference to tell us this. Chances are he was asked and duly provided answers.

A fit Chensey should still be no 1 IMO. Wenger needs to show confidence and trust in him. Chensey can save us points at his best. Mannone has been solid but nothing more.
