    Striker heads out on loan
    Published: 28 January, 2015

    Mandron joins Shrewsbury.

Sunderland's under-21 star, Mikael Manrdon has joined Sky Bet League Two side Shrewsbury Town on a youth loan until the end of the season.

The young striker has been a regular in Robbie Stockdale’s side this season, scoring the winner in Monday evening’s Barclays under-21 Premier League victory over Manchester City.

Having enjoyed a loan spell with Fleetwood town last season, the 20-year-old heads to Greenhous Meadow in time for the Shrews’ clash with Newport County this weekend.

I'd hoped he'd be above league two standard by now, he's 20. Hope he gets games and goals, a confident, fruitful spell of games could give his development a helpful shove.

Yeah i was a bit stumped on league 2 like, would have thought if he was making our bench and getting on he should be at championship level

Well we know his current level now, fully understand why he hasn't been given a start yet.

Not what I had hoped for the lad, but it is a chance to impress. He seems to have the right attitude to succeed, and has looked as likely to score as any of our front men this season.

Do we ? only time will tell, he looks a decent prospect to me, it might be saying more about our development system than the player involved.

Well we know he's not at league one level or we'd have loaned him to a league one club. There's no benefit what so ever in loaning a player out beneath his level. He needs a challenging competitive environment to progress that's a basic so I don't think it says more about our development system. If a league one club believed he could improve them and could offer him game time they'd have made an approach themselves.

Good reasoning this, hope it reflects the situation, but I have reservations. Our players too many to mention, seem to end up in the lower leagues after showing initial promise.

It could be just down to the fact that the deadline is approaching fast, GP wanted him to get more guaranteed playing time and no one had come in yet until today, and Gus was worried that no one might come in at all.
Sometimes, we can read too much into things guys.

the last time he was loaned he was never given a run in the team.

hopefully he gets some time now and can prove himself

I can understand the lad needs game time, but I would have preferred him to train with the senior squad and learn a thing or two from Defoe.

I wouldn't mind if we made a few quid here and there but they walk for free and the tribunals pay peanuts for failed youth players.

All hopes on Watmore for the next few years it seems.
