http://www1.skysports.com/football/...City-boss-Roberto-Mancini-admits-axe-painful- Former Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini remains baffled by his sacking, claiming he deserved more respect for what he achieved at the club. The former Inter Milan boss was dismissed on May 13 - the anniversary of the previous season's dramatic Premier League title success - after three days of mounting speculation over his future. The club declared Mancini, who has since been replaced by Manuel Pellegrini, had "failed to achieve any of its stated targets this year, with the exception of qualification for next season's UEFA Champions League". "The Arabs called me and said to me 'in three years we want the title', and I won it in the second year. And then I rebuilt a club that was not at the top level of football. Evidently, chairman Khaldoon (Al Mubarak) must have had in his head some situations that were not true." Roberto Mancini Quoted in Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport today, he said: "Even now, (almost two months) later, I still do not understand why. It is still painful, I admit. I think I deserved more respect for what I had done for Manchester City. "In three and a half seasons with my staff, I believe I did an extraordinary job. "The club had not won a (league) title for more than 40 years. I won a championship title, FA Cup, a Community Shield and, in the worst season - the last one - I lost a final and I came second (in the league). "The numbers are clear. This sacking still does not have a reason. "The Arabs called me and said to me 'in three years we want the title', and I won it in the second year. And then I rebuilt a club that was not at the top level of football. Evidently, chairman Khaldoon (Al Mubarak) must have had in his head some situations that were not true." Same language Mancini pointed a particular finger of blame towards chief executive Ferran Soriano, saying: "For him, I was a person too big (within the club). He and I did not speak the same language and I do not mean Italian, Spanish or English." Mancini's final season at the Etihad Stadium was also notable for the sale of Italy striker Mario Balotelli to AC Milan, seemingly marking the end of a tempestuous relationship between the pair. "For him, I was a person too big (within the club). He and I did not speak the same language and I do not mean Italian, Spanish or English." Mancini on Ferran Soriano The 48-year-old gave Balotelli considerable support during their two and a half years together in Manchester, despite voicing his frustration on numerous occasions - and a training-ground bust-up four weeks before his departure. "By that time, I understood that in England he was not very well any more," Mancini said. "He - like (Liverpool forward Luis) Suarez - was targeted by opponents, referees, the public. "Sure, he has not done anything to avoid certain situations. "I love him, but I have not heard from him since he arrived at Milan." As for his future, the ex-Lazio coach would be interested in returning to the Italian capital to manage Roma, but stressed he had never been approached by the Serie A outfit. "We are talking about a great club, with absolute prestige, which is trying to rebuild a cycle," he said. "It's an adventure that would have had its own charm, I do not deny it ... Never say never. "I would have considered an interesting proposal. I have never had any direct contact, though." Think he needs to get over it myself, never really rated him as a manager Claims he did a good job, but with the resources he had I think he should of done far better in the CL and also of strengthened last summer...
He knew what he was letting himself in for. Yes it was perhaps a tad harsh but what the **** did he expect???
Money cant buy success for every club, there are only so many trophies out there, and I wish some of our managers had his win % Lazio 48% Inter 62% Man City 59% and lets not forget they had cash before him, but Hughes couldnt do much with them either, its not just about spending millions, its also instilling an attitude to win, which Hughes couldnt do, but he did. (just look at stoke and us we have spent a small fortune since we both came up, and we are lucky to avoid bloody relegation most seasons).
Check the teams in the Italian leagues when he was manager of them 2…Juventus were demoted and im sure AC Milan had points deductions…would of been piss
So? I wish we had got him over Keane or was it Bruce when it was rumoured, probably cost too much but i bet we would be fighting for Europe now and not trying to scrape relegation. And its the same with all top club managers surely, they have good records because they take over top clubs, some fail but its not really failure really, look at scolari at Chelsea 55% win rate and he got sacked. The pressure is probably on more for those than a manager for us say, all they have to do with us is keep us top 10 and a cup run and we would be over the bleeding moon (unfortunately the tossers cant even do that)
Sooooo he didnt really have an opposition for the title apart from Udinese which were never really contenders…AC Milan and Juve have came back into it and Inter have faded away
he can only beat whats is in front of him its not his fault they ****ed up the seasons before and got punished for it.
Not saying its his fault, im saying anyone could of done what he did at Lazio/Inter with them 2 out of the league!
It wasn't rumoured mate! He came out practically begging for the job when we went for Bruce! http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/may/31/roberto-mancini-sunderland
Juve was out of the league for 1 season. Milan got deducted 9 points, Inter finished 36 points ahead of them. Roma/Milan/lazio were still there to fight with. 2004-05 Inter finished 3rd in his first season with 72 points (season before 4th with 59 points) 2005-06 Inter won it by default they finished 3rd but with Juve and Milans problems they won it. 2006-07 Juve were relegated, Milan docked 9 points, Inter won the title by 22 points from Roma losing only 1 game in the process 2007-08 Juve back, Inter won the title from Roma by 3 points only losing 3 games in the process, inter finished 12 points ahead of Juve and 21 points ahead of Milan. He got sacked/was going to step down anyway, replaced by Morinho. If that record is a crap manager then christ i wish we could have some crap managers (ours have just been ****ing attrocious if thats the case).
All you've done is prove my point… 1st year in charge was 3rd best with one of the better teams in the league 2nd year in charge same position but won it due to Juventus and Milan having issues 3rd year juve gone, milan docked points and pretty sure their manager and a couple of players were suspended? meaning all he had to worry about was Lazio/Roma/Udinese 4th year juve just got back up so never going to mount a full challenge, Roma close to them. Milan fair enough whilst I admit he had good seasons, the league opposition wasnt difficult for the team that he had, which fair enough he bought in some of
