Saturday 18th November 5.30pm, Old Trafford Decided we needed a change of tactic from the late match day thread, to get us out of a rut after two defeats, so here is the ultra-early version. Reckon a trip to Old Trafford is just what we need - it will be a backs-to-the-wall, nose-to-the-grindstone, hearts-in-the-mouths, work-your-ass-off and any other cliches you can think-of type of game that we are probably better set-up for than the games where we think we have a serious chance of winning and feel the need to come out and play. Can't imagine Rafa doing anything other than setting up to defend but we may be hampered by the injuries. However good thing about doing the match thread this early is they still have plenty of recovery time. Currently Merinho and Dummett are definitely out, Lascelles is a major doubt, and Atsu a slight doubt (although as he has travelled with Ghana that seems a bit dubious). I am expecting: Elliot Yedlin Clark Lejeune A left back but hopefully not Manquillo (whats happened to Mbemba?) Ritchie Shelvey Hayden Atsu Perez Joselu If Lascelles is fit I would bring him in instead of Lejeune and might even switch latter to left back. Can't see us having more than one chance with that line-up so predicting 1-0 to us with a Joselu screamer from 5yds.
Hoping the defeats have given us a rocket. Certainly Man U aren't invulnerable. Two teams more intent on discipline than scoring, can see a repeat of the Liverpool game.
The way we are playing at the moment doesnt allow us to be the humper or the humpee. Reckon there will only be a goal in it.
Looking forward to this one. Haven't been since 1999. If we keep it to less than four, I'll be happy.
That sounds a bit attacking for Rafa away from home. More likely to play Merino in the defence and go with a 5-5-0.
Too many negative vibes on this thread. I’m going for a win by 2 clear goals to the Toon. Sorry, but the negative vibes must be getting to me as well.
Far too much info for a match thread! We need to prepare for a thorough arse shafting. 3-1 would be a good result.
I have just checked and even McLaren managed to draw at home and away with them the season we got relegated. Surely it's not too much to expect Rafa to win this comfortably (0-1). We need our midfielders to start contributing a few goals as its pretty clear our strikers aren't going to.
It'd be nice to get a point but the performance going into the tough winter fixtures is key. Doubt they will bottle it and it'll be a reasonable game. Hopefully Man U try to attack us and we can set up to try and counter attack. 2-1 United...
