If WBA doesn’t score we will end up 0-0. If WBA scores first then we”ll revert to an attacking side and win 2-1. Pray for an early WBA goal !!
Seriously tho we should just go at them at win by a few. They are down in the relegation zone for a reason.
Big question. In any normal season without City having the exceptional one they have had in the league so far, how many on here would be whinging about our "style" of play if we were competing for or in first position? We have just come through a really poor few years both results and style wise, now we are scoring a decent amount of goals across all games (not just racking up cricket scores against cannon fodder like others) which means we have out-scored our opponents in 22 of our league games (only City have managed to better this in their "amazing" season). If City didn't exist today would we be happy with the season if Fergie was in charge?
In four of the five seasons since Fergie, our current points would have put us 2nd/3rd at the same stage. The only one our current points would put us top is the bizarre season when Leicester won the league and everyone else was rubbish. I don't think that's enough to offset the negative play style. If a team plays like that, the only way to quieten discontent is outright winning, and there will still be doubters we should be doing it the United way.
We blew the league at Christmas; Southampton, Burnley, Leicester. We then threw unnecessary money at an overpaid 'star' player and proceeded to put in the most disgusting two legged display in European football I have ever witnessed, bar none. The grumbles are justified. All this take City out of the equation nonsense doesn't wash with me. I expect massive improvement next season.
I really think a lot of the dissatisfaction with the style of play is amplified by City being so far ahead. The dissatisfaction might still have been there with us in real contention but would have been minimal. If you are leading the league and winning, few people focus on style whatever people here might say. When the style is dour and we are not winning, people start questioning the manager and the system, quite rightly. To me the team was already in decline when Fergie won that last title. All the players gave their maximum to Fergie, in a system that they were familiar with. Moyes appointment was disastrous and took us back several years. Then LVG with his disastrous recruitment and selling and his awful unsuitable ponderous style of play put us back even further. So it is correct that JM had to do a lot of work when he took over compared to Guardiola. No doubt we are still in transition and we are not playing the football we should be playing. But United are hanging in there. Champions League seems sorted for next season and there still a chance of the FA cup. However, as time goes by, it seems that JM is not the manager to take us to that final destination.
