Liverpool look for the perfect response to an embarrassing 3-0 defeat at the hands of West Ham when they travel to Old Trafford on Saturday.

This time last week a cautious dose of optimism surrounded the red half of Merseyside, following an impressive and encouraging away draw against Arsenal. However, that would be quickly be dampened the following weekend, with the reds coming back down to earth with an almighty bump.

The reds suffered their first loss of the season at home to an inconsistent West Ham, and Rodgers will be worried about how convincincly it turned out to be for the Hammers. However, the loss wasn't the only down point for the day, as the star man Coutinho was sent off for two arguably bookable offences, and is now banned for one of the biggest fixtures of the season, and could prove to be a huge loss.

Manchester United also had their first loss of the season, losing 2-1 away to Swansea, which leaves them level on points with Liverpool going in to this fixture, leaving it evenly poised.

Go at them or we'll get done, Rodgers needs 2 formations ready to go so that we match their numbers in the middle of the park. If they play 2+Herrera them we match that and play a 3 man midfield, if they go 4-4-2 match it. Make it a man for man battle and see who wants it more.

I also think it makes sense to play Hendo Can Milner so that Milner can play wide in a 4-4-2 if needed instead of having to make a sub.

It'll be a very boring game IMO. Both teams aren't attacking well at all and they won't suddenly turn that around on Saturday.

I think the team with the better tactics will win.

I've seen nothing from Milner in the middle to suggest he's an improvement. On the wing he will help defensively and will work hard.

Boss football day for me on Saturday. Over to Goodison for the lunchtime game against Chelsea (which should have a banging atmosphere due to the Stones issue) and then I'll be back home and down the pub for a few beers to watch your shower against the Mancs. <ok>

  15. Maybe that is true, maybe it isn't, fact is, he was bought to play in the middle and he only joined us on the promise that he'd get game time as a CM. No matter what we think, he'll play CM imo. I'd actually play him on the right of a three so he can do both roles.

FFS... Coutinho is banned for this game <doh>

If Hendo is fit, go with 3 man midfield of Him, Can and Milner... Ibe and Firmino either side of Benteke.. unless Lalalalalalalana is fit, then, he'll most likely get a game instead of Ibe..
Mings, Clyne and Skrtel will be part of the back 5, does he stick with Lovern and Gomez?

  17. I'd like to see Ings or Origi played alongside Benteke with Firmino just behind. Keep Ibe on the bench and use him as a impact sub if needs must.

Last time we played them, Man U won this game with Mata down the right wing, Moreno against him. Gomez should improve that. I'm fairly confident Clyne can handle Depay well. Rooney may well be the issue here, we need to remove any space for him while not giving any more to Herrera, if he plays.

Ibe needs to be on the bench and stay there - he wasn't even performing for the England U21s - second season syndrome maybe - he needs to go back to what he was doing well when he broke in to the team.

I'd go Lucas and Can as a double pivot with Milner, Firmino and Lallana as a pressing 3 behind Benteke. Say what you want about creativity, those pressing three should get multiple interceptions from Schneiderlin, Schweinsteiger, Blind and especially Smalling - that's where the game will be won for us if it is.

As much as I want us to be tactically and defensively disciplined, there's simply no point because Rodgers is clueless in this respect.

So he might as well go all out - play the diamond. Play the one formation that was successful.

    Migs

    Clyne Skrtel Sakho Moreno

    Can

    Milner Coutinho

    Firmino

    Ings Benteke

EDIT - I know Coutinho is out but for United game, play Lucas as DM with Can in CM.

Get Coutinho and Firmino central - they're wasted out wide.

We need more movement up front so someone like Ings or Origi alongside Benteke is needed. Benteke has tried very hard but the intelligence and timing of his runs is poor, and his relationshiop with Coutinho is forced.
