I rejected Man Utd as a youngster, Fergie called me slurring all over the place and clearly drunk. He wanted me to head up the new midfield and drive Utd onto a new era. I told him to do one and hung up. He settled for signing Rooney, I'd have been the better buy but my heart wasn't in it, I was never at the level of playing for Liverpool so that call never came.
