Manchester United officials have been left red faced after an error was made when the 'S' on the new Sir Alex Ferguson tribute stand was installed upside down. Unconfirmed reports suggest the contractorâs concerned are City based & were overheard commenting that the new SAF sign was a fine tribute for one being honoured for having his head up his own arse for over a quarter of a century. Bosses at the Manchester club surprised Ferguson with the renamed north stand on the weekend when the United manager was being honoured for being in charge of the team for 25 years as they had previously agreed to the renaming of Old Trafford to the SAF Arena. But it seems Fergie's employers weren't paying attention and so went for the cheaper option of the stand only, given hope that with the precedent set by the recent Tevez affair at City, should Fergusson attempt any litigation, that the FA would support them. When the letters for the new stand were being installed, which has led to the 'S' in 'Ferguson' being placed upside down club officials were initially concerned as to Fergusonâs reaction but when it was explained that the electricity could be cut to the boardroom they opted to continue with its installation. The error was spotted by sharp-eyed signmaker Stewart Neill, who told the reporters: 'The tail of the 's' is smaller at the bottom, that should be at the top.' A spokesperson for the club said they were aware of the problem and it would be fixed 'as soon as possible'. Later advising they had taken on board the FAâs recommendation to use a southern based contractor next time & to advise their supporters to âstick to stealing motorsâ up north & leave the running of football to London based FA officials in future.
I hear they're naming another stand in honour of a club legend. It will be known as the Howard Webb stand
