City already overtaken Arsenal in terms of revenue, and now their stadium is going to be bigger than the Emirates too. Maybe the advantage Arsenal thought they would enjoy under FFP will not happen. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deloitte_Football_Money_League#2012.E2.80.9313 http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.../manchester-city-plans-etihad-stadium-6678440
Fir selfish reasons would rather we never left the Bridge, but I can see the need for a 62,001 capacity ground
London - it's all been rather quiet on that front for us. Anyone got any real news or know of any developments in that direction. Really don't want to leave the Bridge, but don't really see that we can continue with 42k (increase to 47/48k), surely a c.60k stadium is warranted & needed....and soon?
As I posted a little while ago...in the latest accounts not one single penny was spent on anything to do with a new/expanded stadium. In previous years it was as high as 700k spent on it. Seems the loss of the vote and then the loss of Battersea has stopped everything.
CP - that's not good. Surely we have to do something. It's not like we wouldn't sell the tickets. Has RA & co had enough of those that are very anti the move, or is it just a case of being unable to locate a suitable venue/site? Don't really know enough about the place, but what about Cobham for a venue......at least it ties up with the training ground. I'm sure there's a million reasons why not, but I think it's time
I think all eggs kind of went into Battersea and Earls Court. Both fell through so it's probably a case of waiting for the next viable site. redeveloping S.B just seems a non started as it would be such little gain for cost ratio. Even if they allowed a standing section, health and safety reasons would put play to it due to poor access out of the ground. In the long run perhaps we have to move further out? The land at S.B would be worth a fortune and would fund an out of city stadium but there's no way the fans would go for it.
It's crazy that we have fans who would rather see us stagnate rather than expand. If FFP is enforced then we will definitely start to fall back and not be able to afford the top talent. We have already seen the prices that PSG/Monaco/Barca/Real are prepared to pay and we simply won't be able to compete. At the time of the last CPO vote I wasn't a shareholder but I am now and hopefully more fans who want to see the club grow than stagnate will be purchasing shares so that we can back the owner who has wanted nothing but success for us. If we as fans can't help him fund a new stadium by allowing the sale of Stamford Bridge to achieve that then we are being extremely shortsighted. Staying at SB would be everyones preferred option but it is just not possible. Have Arsenal lost their identity because they moved? No of course not. Bricks and mortar don't make a club what it is. Anyway, bottom line is the club has apparently given up on it.
Another issue is that even when/if a decision is made to move to another site, it's going to take years to happen. We've got to be a minimum of 3 years away right now, maybe even 5!! Surely these decisions need to be brought back to the table again - I do understand the desire to stay at the Bridge, I love going and would miss it, but we have to keep moving forward. If we don't make that leap of faith soon, we will end up getting left behind
100% Agree. If people would prefer us to be a midtable team at SB than a trophy chasing club elsewhere then they need their heads testing. SB is, and always will be special to us, but my love is for Chelsea, not SB. People need to understand that this is the 21st Century and nostalgia should not keep the club from expanding. Im actually shocked RA has been with us for 10 years and we havent moved yet tbh.
Cue arrival of the WUMs to let us know he's fed up, bored of his toys and is about to leave. Bodanki - I agree, he's been very patient with that issue. Time to do business the Russian way and make it happen
There is another solution of course... All the proper fans attend matches at S.B and all those twaty tourist who like to watch games behind their cameras or ipads can sit in another stadium 'watching' a giant screen. They wouldn't even notice the difference... Seriously, I love S.B but it's a right ball ache to get to if you don't live in the City and if it can't be expanded sufficiently we'll have to move to the closest most viable site available.
You are very easily would up after a little joke. Thanks for the rep - I cannot imagine caring less about such things At least I get to try the new smiley we've got. please log in to view this image
