The title encompasses the theme of this thread. I was thinking, especially in the modern game with few managers having long spells in charge of clubs, which current managers have never been sacked from any of the clubs they have managed (I am looking for managers that have been in charge of at least two British clubs)? Nigel Adkins is possibly one, as although he left Bangor I believe that he left of his own free will during a sticky patch at the club, although this is debatable. The only other managers I can think of are Sir Alex Ferguson and Kevin Keegan (who always resigns). Can anyone add to this list?
He has only managed two British clubs if you are counting him being caretaker at WBA. I was thinking of longstanding managers...
Dario Gradi. I think his departure from Palace was more of a resignation, but I could be wrong. He deserves a mention anyway as he did incredible things at Crewe.
But then I wouldn't call Adkins a longstanding manager yet. I think you need to put some parameters on this. For example, Malky Mackay has never been sacked (Watford and Cardiff), but he's only been a manager for two minutes.
He's another Keegan, takes a team so far then throws his toys out and walks away. EDIT: To avoid potentially coming across as offensive or ignorant to anyone reading, I did not mean that about when he left Celtic which was down to his wife's health issues.
Alan Curbishley left both Charlton and West Ham, though didn't exactly leave West Ham on good terms. Sir Alex was sacked by St Mirren, looks like they're better off for it.
I think Adkins was sacked by Bangor, but the fans kicked up so much, he was reinstated. Has Wenger ever been sacked?
From what I read he was unhappy at the Chairman meddling in tactics and team decisions and refused to listen so was sacked, and when he was the fans went mental, so they offered him his job back. He came back but was still not comfortable so walked away.
I know he walked out of 2 clubs but was Steve Coppell ever sacked? Ignore that - he was sacked after his second stint at Crystal Palace.
I am not sure how Wenger left Nancy but he may have been sacked there... Sorry St_brendy, how shall we define this, a manager who has been in the fray for over 5 or 10 years... Eitherway there cannot be too many .
Was WGS sacked from Coventry..? If he resigned, or did the mutual agreement thing, I believe he qualifies.
