We are all used to seeing players going out on loan. A fringe player from a Premier League side gets sent out to a Championship or lower league side in order to gain first team experience. Is it really so crazy to imagine the same thing happening with managers? The scenario: a side in League Two - say Northampton just for the sake of argument - sacks their manager in February. Aston Villa send their Assistant Manager on loan to Northampton for the rest of the season in order to gain hands on experience of actually being in full charge of a side. This gives the Northampton board time to look properly for a new manager to take over next season rather than rush into a quick appointment. What do you think? Could any-thing like that ever catch on?
I think it's possible, but the reality is that, unlike footballers, there are not squads of 1st team managers, ready to come in when the usual one has an illness. There are plenty of unemployed and willing managers out there, and that list is long enough. Plus, it isn't always the case that the currently unemployed ones are necessarily all worse than the currently employed ones.
An interesting concept, one which i've never thought of myself! My initial thought is; what would happen if both sides were drawn together in a cup? Manager of Club 1 v Assistant Manager of Club 1 on loan as Manager at Club 2 Where would loyalties lie for the assitant manager? Or would he be cup tied perhaps?
Are you implying that assistant managers sit around all day doing nothing? Players play and managers manage. Clubs have large squads of players and they cannot all play but do they have assistant managers sitting around doing nothing? No it won't happen.
yes it is a crazy idea. If there was an assistant Assistant Manager gathering dust in cupboard at Villa Park, then perhaps
