The Daily Mail have drawn up what it considers to be the shortlist for LMA Manager of the year. It contains Brendan Rogers, Paul Lambert, Alan Pardew, David Moyes and, shock horror, Alex Ferguson. What could have been a decent article descends quite quickly into a joke. It states managers can be chosen from all four leagues but the writer only choses Premier League managers and ignores the achievements of those such as Gus Poyet, Nigel Adkins, Brian McDermott, Carl Robinson and Gregg Abbott to name a few. He then goes on to state that Rodgers is the 'red hot' favourite and goes on to say they are 11th with 39 points and even 'out-passed Arsenal' From Rodgers he moves on to our very own Paul Lambert and proceeds to make him sound better than Rodgers but decides he won't win the award because "they are lacking a catchy 'Swanselona' nickname and Lambert is sometimes guilty of shielding his own team's achievements behind a dour and reticent public manner." SO basically deciding that because Lambert doesn't bow down and worship and the media altar he shouldn't win. The writer continues in the same vein making Moyes, Pardew and Ferguson sound like better managers than Rodgers which begs the question, why does he think Rodgers will win it? The whole article is here: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...1/LMA-Manager-Year-Sportsmails-shortlist.html I know we are quite happy for Lambert to pass under the radar, but I think he does deserve some recognition for what he's done. I'm also starting to hope Rodgers doesn't win the award. Not because he doesn't deserve it and not because I don't like him, he seems a decent bloke, but it would be nice if someone who isn't a media darling wins it.
Hmmm, obviousley as much as im over the moon at what lambert has done with us this season in my honest opinion he wouldnt get my vote! theres a manager thats not on the list that would get my vote by a country mile! Steve Kean (as long as they stay up) The s**t that the poor bloke has had to endure this season has been beyond ludicrus, and IF he keeps blackburn up he deserves it as he has defied everyones thoughts on where blackburn were heading!
Yep i'm sure Wolves are watching on and wondering if they should have given McCarthy a couple more games... My money's on Pardew. Newcastle are way above expectations and still going! I suspect Rodgers and Lambert will get very worthy honourable mentions.
Pardew all day long for that in my opinion, what he has done this year with Newcastle and the squad he has assembled at a huge net profit has been nothing short of incredible Funny how quickly dodgy 'arry has dropped out of favour. Before Crapello jacked it in he'd have been right at the top of that list and now he doesn't even get a mention.
Give me strength. What about a guy like Carl Fletcher at Plymouth. He has 20p a week to spend and lucky if he has 11 players a week to pick from and looks like he is keeping them in the league. And all they can harp on about is Blue Nose and Rogers, who through no fault of his own, is getting on my tits. And despite Moyes apparent difficulties, he still has it cushier than any L1/L2 manager. And at the final whistle, nobody is forcing any of them to do it. There are still proper jobs out there. Like working in factories and offices.
Dazz, do you have to bring the Daily Mail to these boards, someone will be bringing The Sun next!! (oh they have already!) Best manager though is pretty subjective and should be based on what each has had to play with and the achievements that they have had with that bunch. For example Mancini with his cheque book club would have had to win everything to have been considered, so obviously he won't. Man Utd have done O.K. but fallen short too often for Ferguson to win it again. Moyes is a class act performing so well with B*ggar all. Rodgers has been really good and has deserved acclaim and the same of course for Lambert. My winner though has to be...... Pardew! Never thought I would say that at the start of the year as I thought he was a bad appointment and saw Newcastle being relegated at the start of the year. The fact that they are on the verge of European qualification is terrific and they have done it without splashing the cash. Colin was also brilliant wasn't he while he lasted.
all i'll say re: fergie is that this season, man utd have been fairly poor by their standards yet they are still going to win the title. there is only one reason why this average man utd team is going to win the league ahead of, in my opinion, two far better teams in man city and even spurs... fergie. thats why he should be nominated in the very least. any other manager put in charge of that team would probably finish 3rd at best
What if ......... we finish above Swansealona by 3-4 points ? How could they justify giving the award to Rodgers then ? Just a thought. Anyway, SAF is a shoe-in for this, mark my words it's soooooo predictable, anyone care for a small wager ?
As much as I like the guy and definitely rate him as a manager I'm always a little confused when people go on about the miracles David Moyes has done on an apparent "shoe-string". Ok he may not have the extravagant riches of the top six clubs but he's still spent a bloody fortune over the past decade without actually coming close to winning a trophy. Fellaini was £15m+, that Whoyanickyerbollockov bloke was about £12m, Andy Johnson and Saha were about £10m and by my reckoning he's spent more than £5m on a player at least ten times and the wages of some of those guys won't be cheap either. Very good manager and a top, top guy, but to say he's had no money to spend over the years is simply not true.
Most overrated manager in the Prem, besides, why do they always bang on about him never having money to spend when Everton have received PL millions ever since it's inception. FFS, What have I said, we play Everton on Saturday we're bound to lose now !
I think you are doing many Manure players a diservice. Evra, Vidic, Scholes, Rooney, Valencia, Fletcher and Jones would probably walk into any other team/squad in the country.
I actually think Alan Pardew should win it. His team was stripped of most of their key players, but look at them now!
i'm not suggesting they are **** players! i'm saying they are not in the same class as man utd teams gone by and i think thats fair. the manager makes them perform at the top though and thats why he deserves credit.
ONly a *** paper between Rogers and PL really depends on who finishes higher. Both achieved much with little. Extremely good points raised above re "poor" Everton surviving on a shoe string of a Premier League payment every year since Mr Murdoch's wallet opened. Considering Newcastle lost their top scorer and best defender to the bin-dippers Pardew has to be commended for picking up several excellent players and gelling them into a team that plays pretty decent football. Regardless SAF will probably win it (although I would not be shocked if BR did pick it up). Whatever we think of SAF he has done well to drag a pretty mediocre Man U to another title without Vidic and any real class in centre midfield (other than Scholes coming out of retirement). Be interesting to see if he can squeeze another seaosn from Giggs/Scholes as if he can't then their midfield is going to need a serious makeover!
Don't forget Newcastle also lost Nolan and Barton, who many considered to be the heartbeat of their team. I personally had them down to struggle this year but they have been absolutely superb and to quote a past manager of their's I would "love it" if they somehow managed to sneak into fourth place
