Remember when we had over 80 applicants for our vacant position and McLaren had apparently turned us down. One name very much to the fore and welcomed by Toon supporters was a certain Thomas Tuchel. He wasn't deemed good enough ( or cheap enough ) for us and ended up as manager of Borrussia Dortmund and this week-end saw him win his 11th game in succession. What would be give for him now?

Mate, he'd have been hamstrung by the same constraints - whether it was McLaren, Tuchel, Klippety Klopp, El Tel or Jesus Christ in charge, the "board" would have still given Colo a contract and bought Thauvin. This is the thing we desperately need to move away from; I think we must give Steve until the end of this season to work out what's happening. The defence is clearly, clearly an utter shambles. It was to all of us beforehand, but Steve is seeing the same things in training as Pardew and Carver so must have thought "right, once Cathro and Black get onto these players we'll be much better" - it hasn't worked, so we have to hope he is now hammering the message back "guys, you have seen this for years, and you didn't warn me?? I need better players".

I genuinely think McLaren, under Ashley, is the best we can get. Perhaps this disastrous start will make the board bend a little more and listen to the manager.
