3.3% drop in revenue to £320.2m.

Commercial income tops broadcast + matchday for first time.

Pretty impressive considering the total non show in Europe last year. All revenue streams continue to grow.

Now we just need the debt to be reduced more.

Commercial revenue up that's what matters; exiting Champions League just a blip.

has United's commercial revenue caught Bayern and real's??

Has SKD managed to turn this into "proof" that United won't be able to compete with Liverpool when FFP comes in?

Bayern earned 170m euro im commercial revenue to United's 100m euro 2010/11. How do they do it?

Real earn 170m euro but that's understandable as they are a much bigger club than united

big question is other than Arsenal how many of the other top 6-8 EPL clubs will manage to break even or make a profit of any sorts, could be interesting

He's got his Early Learning Centre Abacus out as we speak.

Bayern can do it cos they are the undisputed biggest club, by a large margin, in the largest economy in Europe. If you want exposure to the German market, you go to Bayern - no one else compares. Whereas if you want exposure in Spain you can choose between Real and Barca, with Athletico and Valencia having some appeal; in France there's no real stand out club; and whilst Utd dominates the English market, clubs like Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea still have some clout. In Germany, it's just Bayern.

Also, Bayern have an ownership structure where their main sponsorship partners are also minority shareholders. Their entire structure is based on maxing out commercial revenues and appeal, they are arguably a profit making business with a football club attached.

Madrid also have a big commercial focus, but in a different way. Their business model is all based on acquiring the highest profile players from as many countries as possible in order to boost overall commercial appeal. Zidane, Figo, Ronaldo, Beckham, Benzema, Ronaldo etc. It's like the ultimate buy players to sell shirts policy - it's been reported that Real include contributions to commercial revenue when offering transfer fees and wages to players. Tho' it'll be interesting to see if the figures still stack up now Beckham's Law has been reviewed.

Thanks Swarbs. Great post. Can you explain the copy I have highlighted?

I still think a club as big as United should not be that far behind Bayern and Real's commercail revenue and also barca too
