£350 million in debt only making £15 million profit and losing £30 million revenue next season What other company would survive on figures like that , shut em down put them out of their misery, what would make the PL more competitive is to stop such ridiculous wasting of money, why not a point dock for every £10 million of debt ?
Saying that they spent £37 million on Mata this year.... on a position they already have two or three players that play in that position. They could probably spend £25 on a couple of decent centre backs and they would be back in a shout of the league because they don't have europe as a distraction, much like Liverpool had that advantage this year.
to be fair, being the global brand they are, the debt is controllable but too many seasons out of the glare of the champions league and things could get very messy up there
A lot of companies survive on figures like that, and many on much worse. Companies can be loss making for years and not go insolvent. Debt in itself is not a problem - in fact debt is what allows most of us to buy nice things! It's your debt cover that's the question - are you able to keep paying the amounts you owe as they fall due? With turnover of over £400m, Man U look relatively comfortable even with missing out on CL to me.
true, but that turnover would decrease if they failed to qualify for the champions league on a regular basis, which is no longer a given. but as you say, although it doesn't make pretty reading they aren't being overly compromised at this stage
Of course, though presumably no more than the £30m that they're losing out on this year (not taking into account lower sponsorship, etc). I suspect that, in any event, they can get a damn sight more than £30m by increasing their borrowing and buy in a lot of players, making CL guaranteed. I should imagine £100m in debt costs Man U less than £10m per year. Man Utd are also now listed. If they think they're in trouble they can also turn to shareholders and raise capital.
