Wonder who will play up front? I think Martial may continue to allow him to bed in, depends on his fitness though. Would like to see Rooney up front and score a bunch of goals to get back in form. Who are the other options? Don't day Fellaini... Is Wilson out on loan? As far as I know he is.
The tactical nous of Mick 'Big Mick' McCarthy will be too much. United 93% possession, 0 goals Ipswich 7% possession, 1 goal
Play Wilson up front (yes, he's still here). Rest Martial, don't play Rooney. Would like to see Pereira start this one at 10. Think we might see Romero return to goal and Phil Jones should feature. McNair to start at CB and Valencia at RB.
Like when he scored against Brugge?? I doubt scoring against weak opposition is going to solve his problem sadly. Although we do have Sunderland next so he could be on a roll.
United win... the possession: 85% v/s 15% Goals : 0-1 to Ipswich on a simple counterattack after being passed to death. Martial rested, Rooney given a chance to score. New look defence as all regulars are either injured or rested. Being out could be a blessing in disguise
Like he scored against brugge huh? That almost made us not sign another striker but for the defeat (and absymal performance by Rooney ) against Swansea. We ended up with martial who is miles sharper than Rooney ATM. If Rooney had scored against Sunderland, maybe we would have ended up not signing anyone.
You are mistaken if you thought that Martial was a last minute impulse buy because of Rooney or Depay. According to Monaco themselves he had been tracked by United for a while. LVG hinted himself 24 hours before the window closed that United will not buy anyone who they had followed up long term.
Yep. There was no panic at all from us on deadline day. Of anything we handled the whole thing very well. We also ended up with two fantastic outcomes.
Its not every player that we track we end up signing. We might have been tracking martial for a while, but we might have paid less if we didn't wait until transfer deadline day. Also if Rooney had been firing before the end of the window we might have ended up not signing martial (at least for this season ).
We moved because the opportunity presented itself. Monaco were knocked out of the CL and thus wouldn't be recieving the £30million or so prize money so despite not wanting to sell, we made an offer to good to refuse. Similar with Depay, we were in no rush to sign him so early in the summer but PSG made an offer. We made our move and it was done. Just like that. As for paying less. Spurs offered £20m which was rejected out of hand. He then signed a new deal as Monaco rated this lad very highly, they wanted to keep him. Chelsea then offered £40m and again, it was rejected. All this while they were still in the Champions League. Once that changed, we made an offer that at first glance looks mental. But dig a little deeper and its really not that bad. In fact its a brilliantly structured deal. Roughly 21m upfront 5m per season for 3 seasons 10m for being the best player in the world 5m per season if he scores 25 goals (max 3 seasons) The rest based on winning titles with us during the first 4 years of his contract. If we pay £58m for this lad, we've bought the best player in the world.
I agree with this. It's the real world. As for Rooney, what worries me is that wins against average Southampton, Ipswich and Sunderland will spell the end for Herrera for a while, during which time Rooney does fck all playing the number 10. I hope Herrera is brought back in and quickly. If LVG wants to demonstrate his skills as a man manager (like Fergie was) he'd manage Rooney on the subs bench.
Agree Herrera needs to play but not ahead of Rooney. Sadly, and I am a big fan of his, but right now, Mata needs to drop to the bench. He's not cutting it at number 10 when given a chance and doesn't fit with our attack out on the right. I know he and Herrera link up very well but I think overall, Herrera offers more. Rooney's going to play, whenever he's fit. He's captain and there's not much we can do about it. He's not the first time a player play's purely based on being captain (terry and Gerrard) so we have to live with it. Eventually if he doesn't cut it, he will be dropped as captain and then dropped from the team. You've seen how ruthless lvg can be at times (rvp) so unless Rooney inoroves, eventually he will lose his place.
I don't, not the last line anyway. He seems to suggest that if Rooney had scored against Swansea then we wouldn't have bought Martial, like in scoring Rooney would have somehow become both the answer to out No. 9 problem and remained miraculously injury free to boot. We bought Martial because we needed another player, not to replace Rooney. Rooney being injured so soon after merely emphasises that. I was absolutely certain we were going to buy one more in the window and that one more would be a striker and so it proved. Fact is, we probably needed two but only got one. Rooney needs to get fully match sharp to fire and, as club captain, I'm fairly sure he will be given the chance. You'd think that, regardless of whether we win, if he is still rubbish in all the three games you mention then he will indeed then be dropped. He should definitely play tonight though.
