Manchester Utd are ready to press on with a deal for Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic.

The Telegraph says the Potters are ready to demand £15 million for Begovic as they prepare for a summer scramble to sign the Bosnia international.

Begovic has emerged as a target for Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea and his sale could break the British transfer record for a goalkeeper, with Stoke City confident of pushing the asking price closer towards £20 million in the event of an auction.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson rates David De Gea but acknowledges he has flaws in his game which will take experience to eradicate and is considering a move for Begovic, who will be 26 by the start of next season. Anders Lindegaard is also set to leave United at the end of the campaign.

If only we were able to keep our better players. Sadly we will have to accept that Asmir is on his way to Manchester. Who can blame him? His future is assured at Utd. What would his future be at Stoke?

With season ticket sales down Mr Coates has to look to cash in on a valuable asset. I will be sad to see him go but I would wish him well and watch with envy as he plays for a much better side.

Coates will need that too to make up for the loss in revenue on season ticket sales, so we won't see any return on that sum!

I can live with this to be honest, as long as we get good value and reinvest the money wisely!

Begovic has ALWAYS been a cash cow for Stoke - perhaps the only player they ever bought qith any 'sell on value'

    Good deal with Buckland onboard!!!!

He is one of the busiest players on the pitch, good luck to him as ONB said we have Buckland, nice to have a player we can actually sell for a profit.

Really your GK is your last line of defence (literally) so as long as the rest of the team is capable and doing their job it shouldnt be a problem. The issue we have at Stoke is that Begovic has this season kep us in games and probably out of the relegation places!

I honestly think for the reasons you said above Smither's Begovic is worth more and Waddo is right. With the undoubted loss on S/T Mr Coates will just bank it and soildier on IMO. And, he's already intimated that due to lack of interest slow pick up of season tickets. This might delay the corner being filled in. Hence the ground won't be any bigger... What's the point if we don't sell more than last season which is looking unlikely right now. Good luck Begger's <ok>
