Midtjylland director defends £71 ticket price for Manchester United fans
    • Cliff Crown rejects protests against ticket price for Europa League tie
    • ‘We are a small club … we have to make the most of our opportunity’

Cliff Crown, a director at Midtjylland, has defended the £71 ticket price for Manchester United fans to watch Thursday’s Europa League last-32 first leg by saying the game is the Danish club’s “cup final”.

With Southampton’s fans charged only £22 in August when playing Midtjylland in the competition’s play-off away leg at the MCH Arena, United supporters are planning a protest in Herning on Thursday.

But Crown, also the Brentford chairman, defended the decision, telling Talksport: “We are only a small club in small region of Denmark and this is our cup final so we have to make the most of our opportunity.”

On Thursday some of the 800 travelling fans are expected to raise banners in protest at the 11,800-capacity MCH Arena, which, due to Uefa regulations, will be below 10,000 for the match.

So 800 daft twats will go watch probably another turgid performance by their team and protest against the price hike by paying for the tickets. I know they're a bit dim in Lancashire but I didn't think they were that dim.

Saw this earlier today & it is truly ****ing disgusting. United should have told them to **** off & gone there without support.

It's an outrageous price hike, I agree. But 800 Mancs have paid it. They could have not paid and deprived Midtjylland of nearly £57,000. They're daft as ****ing brushes for paying it.

Yes the Man U fans are stupid, the only way to get through to these people is to hit them where it hurts - in their pockets

Why blame the Man U fans for going and paying it. They want to support their club. They have to pay 60 every season at the Arse. They paid 50 at our place. Didnt Cambridge double their price when Man U played them in the Cup??
The authorities need to step in and do something.

    Agree Chazz.

It's hard for United supporters to not pay because of the loyalty scheme they run for away supporters getting tickets. Initially the club should have turned down their allocation & looked for support from the PL, FA, FL & UEFA.

There'd be a ****ing outcry if United increased their normal ticket price in the return leg for away supporters by the same percentage.

They should, perhaps double it to £142 and use the same ****ty excuse Midtjylland's director did. Maybe, just maybe, this whole farce would force the footballing powers at be to step in like Chazz said and enforce some regulation on how much clubs can charge their fans for tickets. This issue needs a wider discussion. It's all well and good Liverpool fans essentially forcing their club to lower prices but that's just one club. The footballing world needs a global revolt against this overt exploitation of fans.

While i agree with that, how much did we all pay for the Wembley Semi and Final? Essentially the same two teams are playing on Saturday for 25 quid, in arguably as good a stadium.
Play Sheff U in a Cup game next season and it could be a tenner.

Will it be a tenner if we get a home draw in the next round??

You cannot blame the club for cashing in on the opportunity, they claim that they could have sold 50,000 tickets for their 11,000 capacity venue. If you don't like it you don't go, simple.

The (part) owner Matthew Benham is also the owner of Brentford, and made his fortune betting on soccer (came from wiki, bit vague) As for cashing in at the current price they will get 57,000. If the tickets were half the price the would receive 28,500 less. Hardly a huge amount in the scale of a club playing in the knockout rounds of the Europa cup. How much do they get from EUFA and the telly? Its more a case of because we can.

They could have charged twice the price and still filled it. The home end will be full of Danish Man U fans as well. Its supply and demand.

That said it's about 680DKK for that match and they are advertising half season tickets on their website from 300DKK LOL

Hats off to Trençin then who only charged us 10 euros (if I remember correctly, I have the ticket stub in my memories box..)

I mean they could have ripped us off since we're a huge club in Europe.. <cheers>

FCM vs Man Utd ticket prices
    February 18, 2016 Adam Hobbs

Whilst BIAS are a Brentford fan organisation, and are not FCM fans; we do believe in fair ticket pricing. Therefore we were disappointed to see the Brentford FC Chairman defending the large price rise for tickets to the game against Manchester United.

BIAS have been working with Brentford FC to get a better deal for fans on ticket pricing and are pleased with the level of consultation we have with the club.

That said, we warn against (and always have, and always will) such price rises, and will fight them should they be implemented at Brentford FC.

(BIAS are Brentford Independent Association of Supporters)

OT but the Danish club were only formed in '99 and they've already won the league and have got this far in Europe.

    The twats.

Though they're a newish club, their heritage goes back much further, they were formed by a merger of sports clubs Ikast FS (founded in 1935 and already a Danish Superliga club) and Herning Fremad (founded 1918, they never achieved much, but had a big local rivalry with Ikast).
