Hard to believe given their squad, the way they play etc etc.. City cannot sell tickets for their Champions League games..Unbelievable. Given all they have been through to find their club where it is now, I would have thought finding tickets for their games would be as rare as rocking horse s4it. https://www.sportbible.com/football...hy-man-city-struggle-to-sell-tickets-20190405
Maybe older fans have been priced out of it? I'd imagine knowing your going to get to the later stages in most Cup competitions would mean a fair few pick and chose which games they go to
Must cost a fortune following them now mind. 2/3 trips to Wembley a season, home and away in the league/cups/champions league. nice problem to have like
Complacency setting in? Price is probably an issue, fans wages can only stretch so far. Nice if you can pick one final out of three every couple of seasons but wait till we get there think our fans will lap up any smell of success as we've not had any to speak of in my lifetime. It's like being able to eat steak every night, you soon get sick of it, and their fans as has been said are cherry picking games.
No success to speak of, Cumbrian . . . . I've spoken, and I'm sure that you have, quite a bit about '73, mind
If 73 had not come along we'd have had nowt to brag about in the 60 years I've been supporting this club and that's very scary when you think about it.
Think any supporter with their success could get complacent....nah f*** it, I'd be there. I tried to convince myself
Mad thing is, City fans were class when they were ****e. I’ll never forget a group of them knocking a bag of sweets out of a kids hands outside the Colliery Tavern in the early years of there success and getting slapped all ower. Then we beat them 1-0. **** knows what happened to them. I genuinely believe if us or the scum had that success we’d need 60k stadiums.
Think United suffered the same problem and made their season ticket holders have to compulsory buy European games
They found more fans from somewhere...but not the kind that will fill a stadium up every game in the same way as Man Utd who lets be honest will be much more expensive to follow then their City neighbours.
I think certainly mate. I’ve no doubt that hardcore 20k plus that turned up in the 3rd tier still remain, but there’s a layer of them that rather than being good football fans, passionate, well the last few times at the SOL there were a few issues. City are a team from Moss Side and you’d expect a few folks with a bit of edge, normal. It just struck me that it was the morons that had expanded rather than the top fans they had.
Having lived in Manchester, having a number of old school City supporting mates and even going to a couple of games, I can pretty much say its not complacency. For a large number of my mates a lot of it does come down to cost and they have to pick and choose a number of their games (and they live within 40 miles of the Etihad). Of course I spent most of my time with these lads when they where still at Maine Road, under the 'shadow' of their version of them up the road, and as a support I personally couldnt fault their fanbase. Move on a few years, large successes and this brings new support, much of it from further afield, who in all probability may have supported another team. Some City fans seem split over this new found following. Some welcome the money this brings, others think, as others have mentioned, can start to price out the old school brigade. Im certain that if we ever dream to have the sort of success City have, Sunderland as a region/population Im afraid to say would probably struggle financially to attend the same number of fixtures. Its not a slur on our fanbase, Im sure that we'd take thousands to every game, if it was affordable for all. I may be wrong. I didnt want my second post on here to be one defending another clubs fans but I think it echoes a sense of realism if we were ourselves to be in such a wonderful position
My City mates were there when they were sh!t and are now living the dream. They are not cocky like some city fans but just confident. Cant knock them for that.
I'll always remember the season Leicester won the league. We played City at home who were 5pts behind Leicester with a game in hand. I don't even believe they brought a thousand fans up that night. Shocking for a team going after the premier league title.
