Man City Vs Sunderland Official Sunderland Not606 Match Thread please log in to view this image Etihad Stadium please log in to view this image Both camps were left cursing the dastardly "missed chance" on Sunday. Manchester City's golden opportunity to move to just one point behind leaders Chelsea was quelled by Burnley, whilst Sunderland drew yet another game despite having an extra man for most of the second half at Villa. If Sunderland had turned just three of their 11 draws into wins this season, they'd be level on points with rivals Newcastle in a healthy mid-table position, and we wouldn't be mentioning the dreaded 'R' word in connection with them. No wonder 'draw' has become the worst four-letter word you could utter in Gus Poyet's presence! That said, you could bet your house on him being perfectly happy with another one here. The 2-2 draw in this fixture last April proved to be a watershed moment in both side's seasons. For Sunderland, despite Samir Nasri's late goal costing them a win, it gave the confidence and impetus to win all their next four games to beat the drop. In City's case, it was a wake-up call for a following five straight wins to lift the title. As City have risen to prominence at the top of the English game, the Black Cats are one opposition that has often seemed to give them problems. Indeed, they've been in front at some stage in each of the teams' last five meetings. At the Stadium of Light on 3 December, Connor Wickham's goal only seemed to anger the champions. The lead lasted barely two minutes before Sergio Aguero scored the first of his two goals in a virtuoso performance and a 4-1 win. He'll be missing from the City side this time of course, but his absence hasn't massively hampered them yet - won four, drawn one has been the record without him. April proved that you never know what might happen, but Sunderland's best hope might be that "auld acquaintance be forgot" by the home team - and that Burnley haven't made them angry again. Little injury update Sebastian Larsson should train today having twisted his ankle on Sunday, when Liam Bridcutt was concussed. “It depends how you can deal with the pain,” Poyet said of Larsson’s chances of playing at Eastlands. “Seb’s the kind of player who knows it’s going to hurt but he’s willing to deal with that. “Liam’s desperate to play but we’ll play by the rules so until Friday he can’t train. Patrick (van Aanholt) and Anthony (Reveillere) will both train on Monday all being well.”
How can this be allowed ........ I've seen clubs have points deducted for fielding ineligible players. "Manchester City hope Frank Lampard will be able to face Sunderland on New Year's Day despite his loan deal from New York City having come to an end. The 36-year-old midfielder joined City in August but his loan spell ends at midnight on 31 December. An option to sign him again would not be permitted until the Premier League transfer window opens on 3 January." http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/30644644
There will be hell on if he's passed available. He's not available, they knew this when they singed him.
Don't think the Special One will be too happy about this either, Pot and Kettle here tho'. Makes you wonder why they will even try it on, the loan was dodgy in the first place, this dual ownership malarkey needs sorting for the good of football .
Few changes for this one for me. If Seb isnt 100% it is the ideal time to throw Rodwell in. Id also go with Wickham up top for this one.
Surely the simple question is "Is he registered to play for Man City"? If and when he is, then he can play and not before.
http://www.theguardian.com/football...d-sunderland-loan-extended-manuel-pellegrini? Manchester City will be able to field Frank Lampard against Sunderland on Thursday if required, after the club were able to extend his loan deal from New York City until the end of the season. City have been waiting on news of the 36-year-old’s future, with the midfielder having been on a short-term deal which was due to expire on New Year’s Day when he would officially become a player of NYC – the champions’ sister club. Owing to the former Chelsea player’s excellent performances and City’s presence in the race for the Premier and Champions League, the club had been keen to keep him beyond the agreed date. And, with three hours of the year left, City announced the news in a short statement on their website. It read: “Manchester City can confirm it has extended Frank Lampard’s contract up to the end of Manchester City’s season, enabling his continued participation in both domestic and European campaigns.” Lampard will now also miss the start of the MLS season. Manuel Pellegrini has been consistent in his praise of Lampard and was asked about his future on Wednesday, when he again stressed the player’s importance to his side. “I said during December we will know what happens with the future of Frank Lampard. It is important for him to stay with us. Today we finish December. I hope today we will have news,” Pellegrini said. “We understand that Frank is eligible to play but it is not a thing I want to continue talking about because there are a lot of parts involved in this discussion and it should remain private. It is my intention for Frank to stay here. He also wants to stay but it is not easy just to do in two or three days.” Lampard’s stay has added value with Yaya Touré set to go to the Africa Cup of Nations while City are also light on proven scorers with Sergio Agüero and Edin Dzeko injured. Cleared to play! WTF?
Doubt lampard will start anyway Hart Zabaleta Demichellis Mangala Clichy Fernandinho Yaya Navas Silva Nasri Jovetic Would be my guess at the starting 11

W Hill are offering 33/1 for a Sunderland win with Johnson to score. Might squander a half crown on that.
