Roberto Mancini accepts that his job at Manchester City may not be guaranteed in the long-term but that has not stopped him from plans to strengthen the squad.

Mancini plans a £37 million double raid on Lille for striker Eden Hazard and left-back Lucas Digne, according to The Sun.

The Italian is desperate to avoid a repeat of the last three months that have shown his expensive assembled squad found wanting after losing key midfielders and defenders to international duty and injury.

His position at the Etihad Stadium has become the subject of intense speculation after his side stuttered in the Barclays Premier League title race over the past month in particular.

Although his job is currently safe, it could change if City continue to implode during the last seven games starting with Sunday’s clash at Arsenal.

City, having led the table for most of the season, now trail rivals Manchester United by five points with seven games remaining.

Mancini, who succeeded Mark Hughes in December 2009, said: "I started my job two-and-a-half years ago and from that moment I think we have improved a lot as a team, as players, as a club."

If Mancini does stay, he wants to ensure the same difficulties do not re-occur in 12 months time.

He said: “We lost Yaya and Kolo Toure for the African Nations Cup, had some injuries and lost Vincent Kompany, Joleon Lescott and Sergio Aguero in the last two games. Maybe next year if we lose two important players, we can have another two good players and we can change.

“We finished our job to build a strong team. Now it’s enough to put in three or four more players with a strong mentality.”

Belgian superstar Hazard is high on City’s wishlist after Mancini made a personal check on the £30m-rated winger.

Mancini also wants Digne, 18, a French youth international who recently broke into the first team.

But the Italian reckons these last few weeks have shown United have the squad to go the distance.

He said: “The difference is in 20 players, not the 11, and because they are used to staying on top, they play without problems.”

I think you will find the money we get for Balotelli, Dzeko and Tevez will cover it.

  4. Will anyone want to go to a shambles of a club like City - boring, negative, and full of mercenaries.

City fans don't realise that far from 'Blue Moon Rising' <laugh>, their club is dying. It is a worldwide laughing stock.

For all your millions you were taught a footballing lesson today. The only players you will get are greedy ones. They wont win you anything.

City's season might well be the worst in all of World football. All those hundreds of millions and no trophy. WOW.

It's like Chelsea all over again. It took them a few years but once they got there they were formiddbale. The mistake they made was in going stale. I expect CIty will win the league in the next 2 or 3 years, but where will they be in 5-7 years time and beyond.

There is merit insticking with Mancini so that he learns from this and brings the benefit of that experience tom the future teams.

More than Mario, it seems to be the return of Tevez that has clobbered their campaign.

    Tevez - Golfing holiday.

Balotelli = passenger for most of the season.

Dzeko = decent lad but we haven't played the way that would have seen him score a lot more.

Having said that we are in second place and 12 points above you, yea what a mess. <doh>

  8. You can't go on about second place - having spent a billion on players, not winning a single trophy is a complete disaster.

Expect your players to be overhauled next year - many going out on loan - and for the stupid money merry go round to continue.

Your players are a complete embarrassment. Not just Balotelli and Tevez. Check out what Nasri is doing on his Twitter today! What a complete tool. You wont win the league with money grabbing mercenaries, and the very soul of City is being destroyed.

No **** sherlock, i have said many times Tevez, Balotelli, Dzeko and a couple of others will go, yet again you bring nothing new to the conversation.

I dont use twatter but am not surprised you do, you "your players are a complete embarrassment" then go on to say "Check out what Nasri is doing" so one player going on twatter tars the whole team with the same brush. <doh>

At least you admit your club has no class - money money money and nothing else. It is so funny that you have won nothing after all that money - what a waste. Great for football <ok>

Highest we've ever finished in the premier league, stayed in the title race for nearly all the season and were top for a lot of it, and it's a total disaster?

We were unlucky to get knocked out of the CL too, 10 points is nearly always enough to progress, but the quality of Napoli and especially Bayern Munich meant we were knocked out. Again, nothing to be ashamed of.

As for the 2 players the thread is about, I haven't actually heard of the left back but Hazard is all the talk and a quality winger is just what we need.

  13. £1bn and no trophy - that's why it is a disaster.

We're the current holders of a trophy. One trophy-less season can happen to any side. If it starts happening a lot then there's a problem but it's one season. Finishing 2nd is probably better than an FA Cup or Carling Cup anyway.

You seem obsessed with money £1300 a season ticket and nothing won in 7 years, now that is a disaster.

Man C are a laughing stock and it is down to their "manager". Any Under 11 team manager would have taken Ballotelli off at half time to avoid being sent off.

I think that who-ever ends up with Hazard will find themselves disappointed.

Digne is good on FM 2011 - seen him for Lille a couple times. Not worth £37m between them. Lille will stick another £10m on top just because it is City.
