Look it’s not a jealous thing but a serious thing. Man City have spent more money than one can imagine to get to where they are now. FFP appears to be catching up with them but most people suggest that they will be fine because of this and that. But have they and the wealth in the premiership destroyed football. They are making a mockery out of most teams now. Pep is being mauranded as some sort of god sent but in his managerial career he has spent more money himself than any other manager. He is basically a cashbook manager. He can buy who he wants, when he wants and is going to be the most successful manager ever as a result. If they even start to lose games this season they will just buy the best players at whatever cost. Not to improve themselves but to stop others getting there. It’s awful!
Sadly I can’t disagree. There has always been a disparity between the haves and the have nots but with the advent of Sky and then the Champions League the disparity has grown to a ridiculous extent. Then throw in the mega mega rich owners hoovering up all the talent simply to prevent others from having them and combine it with the false claim of football being faster and players being unable to play 2 games a week results in only a handful of Clubs owning all the top players. I am hopeful that the proposed restrictions on loaning players will have a balancing out effect resulting in a wider spread of young players and a wider spread of good players making it a more competitive league generally speaking. That said the “money” clubs will still be able to dominate due to their spending power. The only way to address the blatant abuse of the FFP rules is to ban Clubs from the competition for a year or two. Will those in charge do it...dream on.
If only Ashley had sold out to Sheikh Mansour ................... that could have been us .................. and i would have been perfectly fine with it.
I posted my comment before I seen the sterling stub gate.... referees are basically giving them goals now. I hope for the love of god manu beat them but I can’t see anyone beating them this season and for seasons to come in the prem.
There have always been clubs that have bent the rules and used money and influence to fast-track success. First up and probably the most extreme case: Arsenal in the 1920s. Spurs played the field in the 1980s. Man U in the 1990s. Chelsea from about 2001. Man C in recent years. Man City have more money than even Chelsea and Man U but they've still made the right choices. Money means power and influence and ultimately that leads to trophies and massive commercial income streams.
I think the converse could be argued, would Aguero, Silva, De Bruyne etc etc currently be powering the Premier League brand if not for the millions? Does that not maintain our position as the best league? Does that not consequently allow other clubs to attract higher quality players? It's also a privilege to watch those players, as they walk through and decimate your team again and again.
Ron McGarry being told he had to put his *** out before running out onto the pitch rang the alarm bells for me.
If FFP existed in that period, I think we would have done, or else adhering to the rules may have been better in the long-term... It was a pretty irresponsible time and the debt levels effectively resulted in Mike Ashley's tenure... FFP does not result in a fair league, the design is to ensure clubs are stable long-term... But why? If Man City disappear tomorrow due to insolvency, their new found fans and their blue right through lot will not suddenly forget about football... become Football Widows... I don't understand the purpose.
Raheem Sterling has signed an extention to his current contract which will pay him an estimated £300k a week until 2023. This is just so wrong.
