Looks as if Malky is planning to utilise more of the squad this season. http://www.walesonline.co.uk/footballnation/cardiff-city/cardiff-city-fc/2012/10/16/91466-32039610/ Malky has in the past stuck with a core of around 14 players both at CCS and Watford. I welcome his current statement about squad rotation. What's the general concensus?
I read that earlier. We're in a good position that we have those options. I'm not sure MM is saying there will be squad rotation, but (for whatever reason, injury, susspension, lack of form) that those players will get an opportunity during the season. He also alludes to the fact that it may be next season before we see some of these players. There's a nice crop of 20 - 24 year olds in the squad now. My only question would be that at that age, if they can't force their way into a championship team, what chance will they have of making a Prem team, should we be promoted? I'm taking the comments positively, but with a degree of caution. It would have been nice to see KimBo or Eti let off the leash against Ipswich given the absentees. I hope MM isn't over cautious. Saying that, most times his changes have had a positive effect (Bellamy against Leeds, Conway and Rudi against Ipswich). I'd like hime to stay positive with the 442 / 4411 formation though and not revert to defensive 451 formations, especially away. The only player I can't see cover for in the front 6 is Whitts. Would McPhail slot in at a pinch or would MM move Bellamy or KimBo into the creative role? On the whole though, a positive article with reasons to be optomistic.
We have no replacement like for like with Whittingham. . Plenty of options in midfield. Mutch , Gunnar , Cowie , Ralls, Kiss will fill the gap if Whitts is out. Could be a lot of hurt for the opposition with Kiss and Mutch in the middle. We need Whitts fit though. Losing him would be unthinkable. I hope Turner comes back in on Saturday. Connolly has played well. Hes just not as good.
remote! Maybe not rotation as you say. Perhaps wishful thinking on my part. 100% agree on your second paragraph and think they should be given their chance sooner rather than later. Hilts! Connolly's done reasonably well m8 and settled in quickly. It would be good to see Turner return assuming he's fully fit.
We are in a position not seen here before with good cover across the park when needed - Whitts the only exception as stated. Maybe not squad rotation but Malky is keeping everyone on their toes and the guys momentarily held back know what is expected of them when they get their chance , Conway and Rudi for example. Everyone knows what the goal is for this season and they are working towards it as a club not 11 first choice individuals. If glory is achieved it is glory for all!!!!
I don't think Malky is going to rotate the squad he will stick with the usual matchday set up. The big difference this time is that if we have to replace someone due to injury or suspension we will not be weakened. You only need to look at our bench to see seven players who would get into most championship teams.
^^^^^^^ This is how I see it as well. Malky will stick to a tight 14 or so players unless forced to bring in someone from the "outer circle" through injury or suspension. The difference is he has now got very similar options to his first choices except as said previously, Whitts.
and Whitts in any team in this league is irreplaceable. Lets hope they all get a chance sooner or later, i like Kiss and i would also like to see Harris getting a bit of game time, i think the FA Cup team this year will be an eye opener.
Can't imagine any team having two Whitts to woo........hang on - maybe Dave Jones has at the Owls. Not doing him much good though. Mandaric the hawk is watching and waiting and he doesn't usually wait very long. Could be few feathers flying if they lose a couple more.
I cant back dropping Connolly, he's been brilliant since hes come in but Turner is a fantastic cb, probably the best at our club. Any support for moving him out to Lb to make room for Turner in the middle? He looks mobile enough to play full back and certainly isn't slower than Taylor.....
Stevo! Connolly has settled in really quickly and played a stormer against Blackpool but Turner needs game time if fully fit. I wouldn't be averse to resting Huds for the odd game to create healthy competition at the back.
I agree about moving Connolly to left back, it is one of his positions anyway, and Taylor is young and fit enough to challenge him for it. I think MM is still getting some of these new midfielders up to full fitness but sooner or later they need competative game time. If against the like of some mid table club we are 3 up early in the second half I'd love to see them come on and run amok. She MM how good they are. I think it would be a great thing.
