Barnsley next - style very similar to Watford, though with probably less emphasis on football. Big lads who are not afraid to clatter the opposition (remember Bothroyd and Chops getting the treatment?), and a style we have to counter with what we've got in the locker. So, now what does Malky do about this one? Try to match them and stick Blake and Kiss in midfield to dead-leg a few of 'em instead of McPhail and Cowie? How about bringing Gerrard in at CB allowing Big Ben to get stuck in up front and deal with those pesky Barnsley CBs? Maybe we should ignore their game entirely and play our own sleek pacey and passing style (well, passing anyway). What about sticking young Harris out wide on the left in place of Conway - Whitts, Ralls and the Gunnar mesmerising them with their middle of the park passing game (bugger out wide on the right, SuperKev can handle that), and have Miller and Mason popping them in off Big Ben up front. Perhaps they wont notice we've got 13 on. Now Malky, that IS a cunning plan. (at least it IS a bloody plan mate )
I don't see a problem with giving Harris a run that's for sure. I don't think it will happen. But I agree, we can't afford to sit back at any stage.
Has Harris had any game time? I'm all for giving the lad a run out to see how he copes and what he is like, but I don't see Malky using him this season.
hmmm, its a tough one Sparkey. I'll stick my neck out and say the same starting XI with Mason in for Conway (if they're both fit) If ever a game was winnable, its this next one. Barnsley have looked dire whenever I've seen them (so that probably means another hard earned draw)
You are right Exile. Harris will just sit on the bench each week. The way things are going over the last 8 games why not just go to a 442. Miller and Mason up front. Do something different and let Whitts play out left, McPhail and Gunnarson in the middle, and let young Harris have a go on the right. We can always change it if it looks crap! It may seem crazy to stick Whitts out there but it would give us some width and he can cross a ball. He could switch back inside with Gunnar drifting out wide at times. At least make Barnsley think a little.
I think it's safe to say that it will more or less be the same starting 11 - Mason will most prob come in for Conway. If he does change it then I will wash the dishes at everyone's houses for the next 2 weeks. That's how sure I am that MM will not change his game plan... after all we've only lost 1 game in the last 9 (ok so only 2 of those have been wins). But he does seem to be quite a ease with our form at the moment!!!!
I guess it is easy to say we should change, but MM probably feels we are close to hitting that form we had earlier again. Of course if he made a big change and we got drubbed 3-0, we would all be calling him an idiot
whats happened to ralls? you can read as much as you like into team selection but the reality is there will be a maximum of 2 changes, one of them forced because of conways injury... barnsley are crap, if we dont beat barnsley then we cant expect to go up.
True Swamp but then again what about Coventry, Millwall, Burnley and Watford? Before we played them we saw them all a similar type to Barnsley. However, we do seem to hold up better away - less pressure to get forward than at home. I quite like Sparkey's cunning plan but if we are going to play a numbers game then why not go for a rugby union 15 than a rugby league 13? They are used to watching 13 a side up there so perhaps they won't notice another 2.
If Barnsley play like they did against West Ham we should put six past them regardless of who is in our team.
Do you reckon SuperKev would get one of those? On the other hand, if we play like we did in the second half yesterday, they could put six past us. Remember Preston?
Sorry guys - just had to do it! We are Cardiff City and ANYTHING can happen! Watch it and weep.
