Occasional lurker here chipping in to represent toon fans that stand up against racism, sexism and homophobia, since sadly no-one on this thread seems to think it's a problem. As far as I'm concerned Mackay and Moody's messages are indefensible, and it's disappointing to see it trivialised as 'banter' both on here, and (more importantly) by the LMA. I personally wouldn't have anything to do with anyone who said things like that, but even if we were to dismiss the racist/sexist jokes as just 'stupid mistakes', the "not many white faces in there but worth considering" remark demonstrates active racist discrimination. It's not even "not many english/british players…", it's white players. There are plenty of jobs out there for people who harbour those attitudes, but being a Premiership manager is definitely not one of them.

Saying what's happening in Ferguson puts it into perspective is just silly. I was going to comment on how few people who've marched against Mike Ashley's ownership would have also marched against, say, the bombing of Gaza- or if you'd rather keep it closer to home- the dismantling of the NHS and/or the ongoing Tory crippling of the North East. But saying that would be silly too. Because the mess in Ferguson is the result of institutionalised racism at boiling point- and comments/attitudes like Mackay and Moody's are little pieces of that same bigger picture, which is why we have to challenge them.

Apologies that I only seem to get motivated to post when I get annoyed at bigotry masquerading as laddism.

One of the aims of the modern policing of language is to distract attention from important issues, such as those you mention.

1. Tans team searched his house after they signed that useless striker and found texts and emails
2. Is it that bad? Me and my mates exchange all kinds of racist/sexist stuff for a joke, oversensitivity. None of us are racist or sexist

I don't see how those two statements can be anything other than contradictory. If you're not sexist or racist they're not funny!

It is a stupid thing he is doing though if he is only talking racist with his friend it is a little bad luck that it was read. If he is saying to everyone it is very bad but he is keeping it secret to be professional. Not good behaviour but Britain is famous for having spies in everywhere. Your crazy media will kill him before they have happy conclusion to that.

It's called context, you could say to your little brother that your going to kill him when he's annoying you, doesn't mean you should be brought up on an attempted murder charge.

To many people these days are trying to force their morals and humour on other people, if they don't like something they should look away or change the channel, not everyone want's to live in a hippy do-gooder world with fluffy bunny rabbits.

I like my humour edgy, be it racist, **** or rape jokes, all topics can be funny if the teller of said joke is skilled enough. Even though I find those acts revolting in reality, when used in a theatre of the mind context where there's no real victim the brutality of those jokes can be incredibly funny if delivered the right way. Enough with the white liberal agenda where it 's seemingly a game between bloggers to see which one can feign offense quickest on behalf of so-called minorities who weren't even offended to begin with but needs a white knight student blogger to save them, apparently:emoticon-0173-middl

Here's a Charles Barkley(awesome ex-basketball player/pundit) video from ESPN were he say's why it's his right to drop the n-bomb...

I wonder if Tan is willing to show his text and phone messages from the same time period as he was spying on Mackay, I say that as I've always found old Asian men to be stunningly racist with zero banter or humour when they do it.

Let's hope Pardew exchanged some texts or that ge was mates with jimmy Saville

And there is exactly what I was saying. But the context will define if it's a joke about race or if its a racist joke. One can be extremely clever, cutting and edgy. The other (in my opinion) is lazy, bigoted and unfunny. I don't think anything is off-limits as a subject for humour, and humour can in fact be one of the best ways to tackle bigotry and prejudice. Maybe I am a product of my time, but I like PC. I don't think PC has to be boring or un-edgy. Personally, I think one of the cleverest and funniest (and edgiest) comedians at working within the theatre of the mind is Stewart Lee, and you will struggle to find anybody who defends political correctness or what it stands for more than he does.

As for looking the other way when people are discriminating against another group of people based on their ethnicity, religion or sexuality I think that's the cowards choice. Its not a case of feigning offence. I firmly believe that if we act in a way that discriminates against a certain group of people based on any of those factors it is wrong. I may not have been a student blogger, but if blogs had been invented when I was a student I hope I would have been one.
