does any one know what the sexist/racist/homophobic texts were that malky makay sent. all the media going- ooo disgusting but not telling us what was said

Referred to Cardiff owners as "chinkys", talking about Jews and greedy of money etc. Stupid stuff, but I've heard much worse. He's an idiot for saying it.

There were no real sexist comments, just vulgar descriptions about what he'd like to do to a female agent sexually. Meh, no big deal IMO. Typical lads banter.

dont say the word banter tash that was commented on as well,so i cant go the chinky's now when im hungry FFS ,so now i cant have a chinky's when im hungry

The answer is in the question (at least as far as why the media reacted). I agree that you hear far worse on a regular basis and that the jokes were probably intended as banter, but the truth of today is that you cannot send texts like that in a work context (probably for the better). The hypocritical part is that most of the journalists taking the moral high ground have probably said and sent far worse.

Occasional lurker here chipping in to represent toon fans that stand up against racism, sexism and homophobia, since sadly no-one on this thread seems to think it's a problem. As far as I'm concerned Mackay and Moody's messages are indefensible, and it's disappointing to see it trivialised as 'banter' both on here, and (more importantly) by the LMA. I personally wouldn't have anything to do with anyone who said things like that, but even if we were to dismiss the racist/sexist jokes as just 'stupid mistakes', the "not many white faces in there but worth considering" remark demonstrates active racist discrimination. It's not even "not many english/british players…", it's white players. There are plenty of jobs out there for people who harbour those attitudes, but being a Premiership manager is definitely not one of them.

Saying what's happening in Ferguson puts it into perspective is just silly. I was going to comment on how few people who've marched against Mike Ashley's ownership would have also marched against, say, the bombing of Gaza- or if you'd rather keep it closer to home- the dismantling of the NHS and/or the ongoing Tory crippling of the North East. But saying that would be silly too. Because the mess in Ferguson is the result of institutionalised racism at boiling point- and comments/attitudes like Mackay and Moody's are little pieces of that same bigger picture, which is why we have to challenge them.

Apologies that I only seem to get motivated to post when I get annoyed at bigotry masquerading as laddism.

agree 100%

I don't know what he said but I presume it's an over reaction. Did he suggest he was better than the people he insulted

So, Malky Mackey calls Tan a "chink" and gets branded a racists. Well, I'll have to put my hand up and say I'm a racist too 'cause I always say I'm off to the Chinky's when I want a takeaway.

In the madness of the 21st century, the majority of White Hetrosexual Males are Racist, Sexist, Homophobic, Gingerist or whatever at one time or another.

Anyone that's claims otherwise is a F****** liar.

Never apologise for contributing <ok>

I agree with the sentiments of your post. I hadn't (and still haven't) read the content of the text messages, but if they were racist, sexist or homophobic then they are wrong. No arguments.

Personally, I feel that events in Ferguson do put things in perspective. I appreciate that my knowledge of the States is not up to date as I no longer live there, but as I understand it people cannot be prosecuted for posting or saying hate speech because that would infringe upon freedom of speech. Individual companies and organisations may act against employees who use it, but society has to accept that people have a right to express and publish opinions and statements designed to encourage hate and to hurt others. (I would love it if my knowledge of the USA was out of date and this has changed). I believe that the ability to openly express, publish and promote racist, homophobic and sexist opinions can slow down change for the better. We are all educated by our society, environment and peers on an on-going basis. Institutional racism is still an issue in the UK, particularly in the police, but I believe we are further down the road to changing than is the case in many parts (not all) of the United States. I also think that when we are able to debate the rights and wrongs of sending text messages it is put into perspective by the fact that another society is debating the rights and wrongs of shooting an unarmed black kid in the street. It's not that it never happens here, and that we don't have any of these problems, but I believe one of the reasons it happens far less often here (beatings not just shootings) is because we do have a different perspective on the issue at the minute. This is bound to have come out wrong so I apologise if I have offended any Americans with how I've described the way things are in your country.

Numerous things about this case interest me.

1. How did someone else see his text messages? Did Tan go through his messages like a jealous girlfriend???
2. Why are people surprised conversations between two people in the football world are as dumb as this? Football is the preserve of idiots, run by idiots, and supported by idiots, and intellectuals who temporarily become idiots.
3. The LMA <laugh> That's why secret organisations should stay secret. So nobody questions why this secret organisation that does nothing but pays it's members ridiculous sums exists.

For me he's just another victim of political correctness, a very unfunny joke invented by failed people with nothing better to do than to judge the language of others.

Vincent Tan would turn the best of us into a racist.

1. Tans team searched his house after they signed that useless striker and found texts and emails
2. Is it that bad? Me and my mates exchange all kinds of racist/sexist stuff for a joke, oversensitivity. None of us are racist or sexist

Meh, if you say this stuff to people's faces, and they take it as a joke, then fair enough. If you say it behind people's backs to your white mate, then it's not going to be taken as a friendly joke. It's not exactly cool or funny though.
