Was this just a matter of time? Malaysian trialist No mention of Malky in the article (other than he's our manager) so I'm going to assume he's been consulted (?) Thoughts?
That was my thought DJ...the club can bring in trialists but MM has to have the last say on whether or not they're good enough
A couple of shots of him in the Cardiff City shirt with MALASYSIA on the front, ain't going to do any harm back home.
that's a fair point DJ well, the boy can score....but at what level? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNlsLBuS-lk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UtKxDLFSbzs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvVS7bHsJq4
I guess if he's good enough he'll get a contract. Nothing new in far east players coming to the UK. Will increase our profile out there if he's good enough.
It's a marketing exercise, the club has looked at a player who might be useful.................along with 1 or 200 others at this level..................maybe 1 in 10 might make it as a pro footballer, 1 in 3 at championsip level..............however this player is going to raise the clubs profile.......a lot higher than giving a kid from Roath or Grangetown a trial, a kid comes from Redlaver St or Keppoch St, he has his try, they make it great, they don't......well they end up playing LOW or whatever, this Malaysian player makes it great, if he doesn't, well we raise the clubs profile in SE Asia and win a few thousand fans...............I would suggest that a couple of Malaysian players, who have very little hope of making the grade are taken on at Academy level, just for the interest they might generate,
Can't fault the marketing machine on this one, it's not as if it's a make or break situation and everyone is a winner. The club has a raised profile in the far east. The players involved have a chance to prove their worth and get a good deal if successful.
The only thing that surprised me is that it has taken so long. Could have done with signing him at the start of the season so he could have played in the cup games. Any news on what the club did for the Malaysian lad that got a pasting during the riots?
Fair to say he's got something. Whether he'd handle Championship football is another matter. A decent first touch and thumping shot aren't a bad starting point. The free kick against Liverpool was class.
Watched him in the Suzuki Cup...wont make out first team.... probably not our bench. Would be a good L1 player.
