I thought I would go off topic and salute the remarkable achievements of our soveriegn who has served this country with such distinction over the past 60 years. After 3 days of pagentry and joyful patriotism it has left me feeling proud to be British! Who else on earth could put on such a dazzling spectacle? There maybe a lot of things wrong in this great country of ours but we are so lucky to have a wonderful monarch who is above the political pygmies who run our country. The amazing concert last night showcasing much of our greatest popular music over the last 60 years, who cares that we never win Eurovision. A moving service at St Pauls and the carriages and pomp afterwards culminating in the magnifercant fly past. I am in full admiration for the Queen who has given her life to serving our nation and the commonwealth as a whole. Thank god we live in a vibrant multicultural society with an experienced calm headed monarch who acts as the glue that holds us all together. Who needs a tin-pot president when we have such a fantastic figurehead. A weekend that has put the Great back into Britain and I hope that our footballers now take notice and deliver us some glory over the next few weeks.
So our wonderful government spends millions of pounds celebrating one of the richest families in the world while the old and the sick die on trolleys in understaffed and underfunded hospitals, our soldiers are killed because they don't have the proper equipment! That's something to be proud of!
Never had you down as a rabid bitter old republican Dave! You seem to conveniently forget that the Royal Family attracts far more tourist pounds into this country then we spend in taxes on them.
If I want to celebrate anything, I have to pay for it, not take it from the poor or infirm! It wouldn't hurt them to stick their hand in their own pocket for a change!
Most of the celebrations have been privately funded and not from the public purse! These celebrations attract a global audience showcasing Britain but I suppose someone as small minded as you can not see the bigger picture!
When I see people dying through lack of funding, it makes all this pomp and circumstance seem rather pointless! Oh to have been born with a silver spoon in my mouth!
This has got nothing to do with the Queen she does not make policy decisions I never knew you were a trot but then again you learn something new everyday!
I'm with Warky on this one and I'm not one of these who is a traditionalist, I'm all for progressive change(not the Monarchy) but it was a great occassion, something we should be proud of!! We are celebrating the life of a woman who really is the greatest civil servant this country has ever had and who brings our politicians to account. You could argue about anything, saying we shouldn't be spending money on this on that bla bla bla but it is truely about the bigger picture, it's about inspiring people, celebration uplifting people, bringing people together. Life is for living, if we didn't have occassions like this we would all be worse off. I expect most of you think the Olympics is a waste of money! Supers I actually am sad for you to have missed it, it truely was a great occassion.
Totally agree with our mostachioed faced freind, God save the queen. All the anti peoples should be sent to the tower in my opinion.
Completely with Warky on this one and I'm as left wing as they come. It was exactly what we needed to give everyone a boost. These people helped the nation stay strong through the second World War, as a nation we have a fairytale magic that doesn't exist anywhere else in the world. The romanticism of the duet from the balcony was something that Shakespeare could only dream of. The brilliance and humour of Madness and the Buckingham Palace visuals and then the spectacular pyrotechnics for Live & Let Die and Prince Charles rounding it off with the speech of a lifetime. I did feel very proud to be British and as a country we have a hell of a lot to be proud of. It was a window for the rest of the world in which we chose to project hearts onto the palace and sing 'It Must Be Love!' - what a message. Best of all though it was a chance to make a little old lady feel very special and a brilliant example to everyone to respect the wisdom and experience of our elders who are generally treated with disdain and condescension. The Queen plays a very important role and is a great symbol of stability. I think this sort of celebration should happen far more often and wouldn't it be wonderful if it galvanised our football team to bring home the silverware!
I'm glad us Suffolk boys are royalists! I was up in Southwold over the weekend and the whole town was bedecked in Red White & Blue, a great atmosphere and a few pints of Adnams Diamond ale made it a fantastic experience! Here's to the next 10 years your majesty!
This Norfolkman is firmly in your camp, Warky. It's been a great weekend and a brilliant way for our national 'family' to come together in tribute to an extraordinary servant. May she reign for many more glorious years.
Funny how opinions change. The stance EII took after the death of Princess Diana alienated her from a large proportion of the British public, and many were asking if it was time for the Monarchy to go.
just doesn't interest me in the slightest. nothing against the whole thing and don't have any issues with us having royalty or anything like that. i'm sure you'll find people who aren't interested in sport at all - i think they're nuts!
Fair enough Supers I just don't get these people who want to stick the boot in at every opportunity. She wasn't elected but to be honest she is doing a far better job for the country than these morons who we do elect!
