Josh Maja was a late withdrawal from Sunderland U23's starting line-up this afternoon.Maja had been expected to step up his comeback against Everton at Finch Farm after playing an hour in the 2-0 defeat to Arsenal earlier this week.

The 18-year-old, who has high hopes of a first team breakthrough this season after a stellar pre-season, is understood to have felt a problem with the knee that has kept him out for almost three months in the warm-up.

It is not at this stage thought to be serious but he is likely to undergo further examination in the coming days.

Winger Rees Greenwood was named as

Midfielder Paddy McNair starts his third game in a row as he continues his comeback from long-term injury.

Pity, hope he is up and running soon, on his pre-season form he looked the business.

It'd be worse if Grabban was still out but still a bugger for us and him.

Hope he's not gonna be one of these players who are constantly out with niggly injuries.

Looks like we've totally wasted yet another loan spot on Jonny Williams who looks like that sort

Just watched the game (thanks to Bri), we won playing second fiddle for much of the time, Everton have some fine young players, but we toughed it out, with a solid back four, and another promising keeper we kept a clean sheet, (great if we can carry this sort of resilience into the first team at Brentford), and stole it at the end. Man of the match for us, Denver Hume ? playing at full back. The Everton coverage was very good, shame we don't have the same facility.

Another class thread title from Tees.

I think his subtle brilliance is often overlooked.

It's not overlooked. I get it almost every time! Tees puts a lot of thought into his title threads.

Good mate. Not on here as much as I used to be.

More likely to be on the Premier board than here these days though when I am on. This place is a lot quieter now.

Stayed away from all that who's the biggest c*** **** though <laugh>

    Funny to read though.

I always appreciate them but I don't want to give him a big head by mentioning it every time.
