We are in talks with Man City over Riyad Mahrez and according to the mercury its agent fees stopping the deal at the minute I will be gutted when he leaves
I’ll be gutted. Hard to take, but at least it’s not a shock and the earlier in the window the better. We were blessed to have him, whilst he was blessed to be nurtured in such an environment.
Just posted about it on the transfers thread - apparently we are willing to accept their offer of £50m + Patrick Roberts now. Would have preferred he go abroad but no one can afford him so thanks for the memories.
Not wumming...but is that it? 50 mill? Was expecting 70 mill and up Wish Levy would loosen our purse strings a bit, would love to have him at Spurs.
Seems to be just that - is an absolute steal considering that Coutinho was £142M and Mahrez has better stats and won more in the Premier League. But ultimately Man City aren't as daft as Barcelona and we are realistic.
So we declined £65M and Patrick Roberts as it didn't meet our valuation but are now accepting £50M and Patrick Roberts? Although I'll be gutted when he goes I'd accepted he would this summer, but that seems derisory in today's market.
No surprise he is likely to be off. Thank goodness for internet, DVD etc where I can look back at some amazing skill and remember what a player and what an era I was able to see. Hopefully its not the end of our top six ambitions but he sure will be missed. I was always in the Weller was the most skillful camp until Mahrez came along.
When it comes down to touch, Ade Akinbiyi was in a class of his own. He had a touch that defied all the laws of physics. It will be good to put an end to the distractions of the inevitable departure of Mahrez. Fantastic talent who was both our strongest link going forward and our weakest link when defending. Hopefully it will lead to more of a total team approach. We don't have a side packed with superstars that can carry a player who isn't capable of putting in an all round shift, and under Pep he could become truly world class.
We would never have won the title without Mahrez .. we have been privileged to witness a player of his quality in a Leicester City shirt ... players like Mahrez win you trophies ... average Joes who defend as well as they attack win nowt and end up where Stoke and West Brom now find themselves ... I for one didn't give a flying about his lack of defensive qualities ... he won us many more points than he ever cost us ... was one of the reasons not to begrudge paying the ticker price ....
Makes sense we'd want more a couple of days before the end of the Jan transfer window and less now with 6 months less on his contract and no other suitors.
Don't think Patrick Roberts was a part of any negotiations in January, it was a straight £65m if i remember correctly, which you could argue £50m plus Roberts is. Hes not signing a new contract anytime soon, his values only going to depreciate from here.
It’s worth making a massive profit now than a slightly higher profit last January and completely ruining your season. We could have gone down!
It really does seem to be because he plays for us not a ‘top’ team. His nationality may be a reason too, he hasn’t shone on the international stage as Algeria are somewhat crap. We were saying in January that he has proven himself more than players like Coutinho (goals and assists in a lesser team) and get laughed at and shouted down by the glory hunters over on the prem board because they don’t believe him to be that good because he plays for us. We should be after much more than 50mill but if they include Roberts it’ll soften the blow
It did include a player exchange in January and the rumours were that it was Roberts. How long does he have left on his contract, do we know?
The other thing to factor in is in January the club may have said " there is no-one that we can get in in two days, stay with us for the remainder of the season and we guarantee you can go". Apparently Mahrez said the club had already broken one such promise but we will never know. The only player Puel bought in was Diabate so probably has already got a replacement albeit not the same quality. I will be forever thankful we got him at all and we will be fine once he has gone. Now if Vardy was to go, then we are in the poo...
It was Roberts - apparently we were after him for a while and were willing to make the deal but wanted more cash then Man City were offering. Mahrez has 2 more years - he signed a 4 year deal in 2016 https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/37112706
Diabate isn't ready yet as you can see from his stats last season of 14 games, 5 starts, 1 assist and 0 goals - having someone like Ben Arfa for a season or two will let him and Gray develop without the pressure of being the main creative spark in our team.
We should get Kelechi Iheanacho’s buy back clause voided as part of the deal If Iheanacho achieves his undoubted potentially then Man City will have him back either to play or do what Real Madrid did with Morata. Bring him back just to sell him again at a profit
Some reports a £75M deal has been agreed £60M up front and £15M in add ons Gutted. Best player ever to play for Leicester imo. And I doubt we will see better With the Atletico Vardy rumours even more important we keep him else we would lose our too biggest goal threats and that rarely ever ends well the following season Give Vardy a contact that ends his career here
