What do people think of this?

My personal feeling is if he returns as a player/coach with more emphasise on the coaching side thats fine.

But if Mahon & Mirkin are replacements for the Captain & Tiny, I'll be very p#**@@ed off.

He's only training with us to keep fit - would be very surprised if he came back in any capacity.

I very miuch doubt Mahon is a replacement for anyone. I would assume he still lives reasonably local, is mates with Dyche so has asked ifhe can train to keep fit until an offer comes in.

If no offer comes in, I wouldn't be surprised if he signs month-to-month rolling contracts, being paid small amounts, with bonuses, ie if he plays!

There's no harm in him being in the squad, and can only be benficial to the youngsters to have another old head about, especially a former Watford captain!!

I'd be very surprised if he would want to come back, I remember the abuse and vitriol he used to receive on the old 606 site and. towards the end of his time with us, being booed when he played. He may not have been the most talented player but he always gave 100%.
A good honest pro, who could still do a job for us!

My opinion of Mahon has changed hugely since he left us. I used to find him so frustrating, and was convinced he was our weakest link (bar this )

I now wouldn't have the slightest issue with him coming back. He could be a very useful bit-part player for us, and as has already been mentioned, be beneficial to the youngsters.

Just a shame he got his hair cut.

I agree that he always gave 100%. As such, he was entitled to our unqualified support and the abuse he took from the stands was plain wrong. But I still believe that he was a very mediocre player who wasn't good enough then and therefore certainly won't be good enough now. Like others, however, I'm sure that he's just training with the squad as a favour from Dyche rather than as a potential signing. At least, I hope we're right about that...

Another old head for the kids to learn from ,no harm in that, I also hope this isnt heralding the skipper going to Derby!

Mahon was given a rough ride at the end by the fans so I dont think he is going to play that much if at all. I can see a bench hugger who could do a job in the last twenty minutes or so. A good addition to help the youngsters along and would offer experiance.

Yeah I can agree with that. We need to concentrate on the footballing side, and whilst he isn't going to be "the best ever option", I'd prefer to have the option than not.

I don't remember him getting "dog's abuse" yes there was some sighs, but nothing that big ....... or maybe that's the Lower Rous for you?

I think it was more on the internet that he got loads of stick.

Actually wasn't too bad in terms of doing a steady job but maybe Aidy was right to let him go at the time.

Might get a short-term contract at best as cover.

He didn't look terribly fit by the time he left...more watching and shouting than winning and using the ball...but our midfield options do look a bit thin at the moment.

Does anyone have an idea of how close Mahon and Dyche are?

This is fantastic news even if he doesn't play, as I'm sure he'll be a great influence during pre-season. If he remains as a squad player, that's fantastic.

Although if he does stay longer, I'd rather the captain and vice captain stay the same. Mahon is a decent leader, but the captain should be able to command a regular place in the strongest team, and I'm not convinced whether he is quite that good anymore.

he did get loads of abuse towards the end of his time with us. Never good. It does seem, from what is being said, he's just training with us because SD is his mate. It doesn't sound like he'll be playing, but as has been said, his presence could be a big positive for the young players...

I didn't see much of him just before he left, but my impression was that he was more vocal than mobile.

i think it's fair to say he was a little more laboured by the time he left!

I'm not going to mince my words on this. He was really poor before he left and Boothroyd was spot on in telling him that he had no future with us. Given that that view was correct then, I fail to see how Mahon joining the club could be a good thing now.

I don't think it's in a playing capacity...probably we're just helping him get fitter, and letting him give some pointers to the kids...maybe...

well lets hope some of the experiences he has had rub off on the kids and inspire them on to greatness. There can be much wrong with that, but i feel there is no place for him on our squad, JE is the hard tackling captain, and Mahon certainly is not a super sub.
