Deflated..... Sat watching in a hotel room after a ****ty meeting. We played well but the better team went through.
Yeah we were always going to be up agaist it as Benfica are a good team. We probably lost it in the space of 5 minutes in the first leg but got our tactics bang on tonight i reckon, when Ben Arfa pulled that ball onto his left foot I was sure that was going to be it... If we play like we did in the first half then Sunday is going to be a bad day but if we play like we did in the last half hour then it'll be interesting to say the least. I think we are much better going forward than we are defensively - Sissokho, Cabaye, Ben Arfa, Marveaux can't defend for toffee.
Pleased with that tonight. They've only been beaten once this season (off Barca) and haven't been beaten in 35 games. If we would have gone all out attack from the start we would have been shafted. We didn't get outclassed, we came out of the game with a lot of pride and no injuries hopefully. Looking good........... We've got Santon, Collo, Debuchy, Gouffran, Taylor, Tiote (and Ben Arfa) to come back against your rabble.
Fraid so mate. We held our own against a good side with quite a few regulars out. Looking forward to Sunday. No doubt I'll share an after game virtual pint with Whitey, whatever the result. (Actually, I don't think Collo will be ready)
Thought they were alright, although Benfica cantered it to an extent. Not a marker for Sunday for me, we don't have Cardozo, Gaitan etc.... I'd still snap someones mitt off for a 1-1.
Well played Newcastle, only 1 goal from going through at one point but always felt benfica would bag one. Anyways I am not too worried about Newcastle its what we havnt got that worries me, no pacey striker to pull their defence about or useful supply chain and the blowing out of our arses that occurs around 70-90 mins.
