Anyone know anything about him. Im guessing if they sign him Ba or Cisse will be leaving http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11678/7824873/Newcastle-bid-8m-for-De-Jong Newcastle bid £8m for De Jong McClaren's Twente considering offer received for star striker Last Updated: June 18, 2012 10:36pm Luuk de Jong: The striker has scored 39 goals in 76 games for Twente ... Sky Sports understand Newcastle have bid £8million (â¬10m) for FC Twente star Luuk de Jong. The Premier League club have long been linked with the Holland international, who went to Euro 2012 but did not play in his nation's disappointing campaign. Newcastle have now made their first approach and Sky sources understand Twente are considering the offer as boss Steve McClaren thinks about the options. The pursuit of De Jong will do little to quash reports Demba Ba is set to leave St James' Park this summer and it appears to be the case of Alan Pardew lining up replacements. It has in the past been reported Twente value De Jong at closer to £12.5m so it remains to be seen whether Newcastle are successful in their initial approach. Pardew had in January shown interest in the 21-year-old but instead decided to bring in Papiss Cisse from Freiburg. De Jong has also been linked with Tottenham, Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund after scoring 39 goals in 76 games for Twente.
He's a very good player, very different in style to Ba, and not quick, that's his flaw. He would be an excellent replacement for Ba though, as he'd be much more suited to playing on the left side of a front 3 than Ba is, probably meaning more chances for Cisse. I'd prefer it if he went somewhere else, frankly (although I wouldn't fancy him for us).
Keep him and welcome. Holland is ok. prem ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,ah well. didnt impress me. not like Suarez did. watched loadsa Dutch football, went to a lot of games. just not impressed, apart from Suarez.
I remember when Boro pipped us to the signing of Alves who scored bucket loads in the Dutch league but couldn't hit a barn door in England - other than Suarez, as Bill points out, I have never fancied anybody out of the league since.
I personally hope we get him. He's been well scouted and lets face it our track record isn't exactly bad over the last few year with signings. The kid is 21 and from what I've seen looks a very decent and capable striker. I actually don't think 8 million will be enough for him if I'm honest.
So... Cheikh Tioté, Michel Vorm, Van der Vaart, Bryan Ruiz, Dembele, Vermaelen, Dirk Kuijt, Yi sung Park, Heurelho Gomes, all from 2005 up till now, all of them are shaite you say...
You're obviously not very good at talent spotting if you weren't impressed by Tiote, Vermaelen or Van Der Vaart EDIT: Beaten to it
I think they will keep Ba & Cisse as well as De Jong or another striker, you need at least 3 good strikers to tackle europe as well as the PL, Best will make room for De Jong or another, dont know why people think Ba or Cisse will be off, Pardew is making the squad stronger not weaker plus the Ba rumours only started because of this release clause not off any player or agent quotes.
I agree - I am not very good at spotting talent coz I was gutted when Boro beat us to the signing of Alves as I had seen him play and thought he was going to rip it up in the PL, shows what I know!!!! Ever since then I have been really dubious about the quality of strikers coming out of the Dutch league and in my defence none of the players that either you or Cove quote came with the tag or being world beater goal scorers as Alves did and this lad does. I should have been more precise in my criticism!
Kuyt has not really bagged the amount of goals he was expected to so proves my point. As for RVP - b*gger, I had forgotten about him!!!!!!
