Back in 2008, the early days of Roy Hodgson’s reign,

Fulham joined forces with Belgian First Division club Germinal Beerschot, a deal which meant that we could park our non-EU players until they gained EU citizenship. We chose Belgium because (at that time) it only took three years to gain Belgian citizenship.

How we came to chose this particular club, nicknamed De Ratten (the Rats), is open to speculation. They were only formed as a club in 1999, when Germinal Ekeren and Beerschot merged into one club to raise attendances and to get Beerschot, then of the Belgian third division, out of debt.

As a first step I know we sent Ghanaian youngsters King Gyan Osei and Daniel Owusu on loan to them.

Only MAF could have come up with a scheme like this. Wonder what happened to it?
