Read this from the breaking sports news from the BBC news feed. 0936: FOOTBALL Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has insisted he rates strikes Darren Bent and rejected any suggestion that there was a problem with the striker's attitude or application in training. Lambert was bombarded with questions about his decision not to name the club-record £24m signing in the past two games following Tuesday's 1-0 victory over Reading. According to the Guardian, he was asked a total of 22 questions about Bent's absence but nobody was any the wiser as to why Bent has been frozen out. Paul was always brilliant at giving the press nothing. You could just ask him questions for hours and get nothing except for a few tried and tested words.
What makes me chuckle is why the stupid media keep asking the question. Lambert tends to play players he buys. He bought Benteke who is scoring goals and getting rave reviews. Agbonlahor is young, talented, works hard and is scoring goals. Bent will put the ball in the net if you put it on his foot or head in the 6 yard box, doesn't work hard or contribute to teamwork. Surely it is bleedin' obvious, even to the numbskulls in the media, why he isn't playing Bent!!!
Remember his post-match interview at the Drury's testimonial? The reporter asked about his future. He said, IMO happy here and don't be stupid asking questions like that, to night is about Drury. Then the reporter asked about Holt's future and got yelled at by Lambert. Can't find the video but it was brilliant!
The answer to that is simple isn't it? The media do not just want to know what is going on, they want to CAUSE trouble and controversy. They are not content to report news, they want to create it. The BBC practice this daily on the political front by interviewing someone early morning. They then spend the rest of the day reporting "Government minister says ........", "Opposition spokesman says ........" Since the questions have been set by the interviewer, the whole thing is just fabricated. Neither minister nor opposition spokesman would have said anything on the topic without having been set up. Same with football manager interviews: the questions always focus on what the interviewer thinks will cause the most trouble -- refereeing decisions, team selections, is your job on the line, negative crowd reactions, etc. Modern journalists are taught to deliberately look for the controversial, and if they can't find it, why then they just try to create it. The media term is "being edgy", they think that to be interesting they have to be "edgy", whereas most of us just want sensible questions about the game that's just taken place and a manager's honest opinion on it.
It is ridiculous he is leaving out their best player though...... Why? Benteke is scoring goals granted, but Agbonlahor is not a Premier League forward. He was really good but not the player he was since he "beefed up", lost a lot of his pace which was his strongest attribute.
Him and Bent destroyed us at Villa Park last season, but when I've seen Villla on TV this season, he doesn't seem to the threat he was.
